- Ladies Team Lose Nine Goal Friendly Match
Beechy Ladies who had no offical league fixture on 16/1/2022 arranged a Friendly Match with Bury FC Foundation. Following an action packed ninety minutes the Beechy players were disappointed to lose the match 6-3 after leading 3-1 at half time.
Beechy won a couple of early free kicks before Monique Pollard forced a corner taken by Stacy Patridge who curled the ball into the area and Bethany Hill opened the scoring with a close range headed goal in the 3rd minute. Bury FC soon found an equaliser when their No8 won the ball on the halfway line and at the end of a solo run added a cool and accurate low finish for 1-1. Briefly the visitors produced some useful attacks and Beechy's goalkeeper Holly Grimes displayed some safe handling when Bury FC threatened to score again. Both Becky Gregory and Amie Barratt were heavily involved in midfield as Beechy slowly dictated the pace of the game and Aimee Armsden forced a fine save from the visitors keeper after receiving a slide rule pass from Becky Topping.
Beechy's right back Alice Mosley won the ball with a well timed tackle and her accurate long pass found Amie Barratt who forced another corner. Following a goalmouth scramble the ball eventually found it's way to the unmarked Monique Pollard who hammered it past the keeper to put Beechy 2-1 up. The visitors had to defend deeper in their own half as Beechy continued to create more positve attacking soccer and a terrific move involving Megan Mirfield, Stacy Partridge and Amie Barratt deserve a better finish. After twenty four minutes Beechy added goal number three thanks to a superbly disguised pass from Stacy Partridge and a powerful strike with her left foot by Monique Pollard. Some safety first defending from Kirsten Elrick, Alice Mosley, Shauna Smith and Bethany Hill frustrated the visitors attempt to reduce the arrears.
Just before the half hour mark due to a slight injury Stacy Partridge was forced to leave the pitch and was immediately replaced by Aimee Greenwood. Looking for her hat-trick Monique Pollard saw a great effort hit the crossbar following a slick move between Aimee Armsden and Amie Barratt. A vital headed clearance by Bethany Hill dealt with a curling free kick sent deep into the area and a couple of minutes later the Bury FC No9 curled the ball just wide after a pinpoint cross from the visitors No19. As play switched rapidy from end to end Becky Gregory got into a good shooting position just outside the area but Beechy's midfield star fired the ball over the crossbar. An effort from the visitors No10 hit the side netting then just before half time a move between Aimee Armsden and Monique Pollard forced some vital defending from the Bury FC No4.
Beechy's substitutes Julie Ward, Emily Walmsley and Rosie Moorcroft were introduced at the start of the second half and all three players were instantly involved in the fast action. Holly Grimes dealt with a shot on target from the visitors No8 then the Bury FC No9 fired the ball into the side netting from a narrow angle. Rosie Moorcroft nearly added the finish to a neat move down the left wing involving Monique Pollard and Becky Gregory. Suddenly forced to absorb some heavy pressure from the visitors Beechy were momentarily rescued by Julie Ward who produced a brilliant goalline clearance. Following a few counter-attacks Beechy forced successive corners and on one occasion Amie Barratt hammered the ball wide of the target then Amie was involved again when she controlled a pass from Aimee Greenwood only to be caught in an offside position.
In the 62nd minute a long range effort from Bury FC's No6 flew into the net for her teams second goal and a controversial offside goal resulted in the visitors getting back on level terms then sixty seconds later a shell shocked Beechy outfit found themselves trailing 4-3. Now forced to work overtime Beechy who relied heavily on their defensive quartet made a couple more changes when Kirsten Elrick and Aimee Armsden replaced Monique Pollard and Becky Gregory. The Bury FC No9 took advantage of some slack Beechy defending and was gifted an easy close range finish for the visitors fifth goal after seventy nine minutes. Beechy won a corner and the flag kick taken by Aimee Greenwood was met by Shauna Smith who's effort cleared the crossbar.
During the latter stages of the game Bury FC added goal number six, Holly Grimes made several good saves, another effort by Monique Pollard hit the crossbar and Aimee Armsden was inches away from helping herself to a goal. Beechy's next Greater Manchester Womens League Division One fixture is on Sunday 30th January 2022 when they are away to AFC Oldham 2005 Womens Team.
