Beechy U/11's Storm v Parkwyddn Phoenix Salford and Districts Junior League Red Group.

U11 Storm we back in action after a month of no footy. On a crisp January morning at Parkwyddn we found out early that two players had succumbed to the bout of lurgy that’s doing the rounds so we were down to a flat 9, no subs.

We had a good chat pre game about effort, discipline and working hard for each other, standard stuff but even more important when you have no subs and our 9 lads stepped up and delivered.

Beechy started on the front foot pushing Parkwyddn back and creating some decent half chances but Parkwyddn were always dangerous on the break with a couple of really paces strikers and we got caught with a bit of a sucker punch after the ball broke from our corner, their forward ran clear from halfway and produced a great finish to put them ahead. In recent weeks we have dropped out heads in instances like this but I saw character from these boys that I haven’t shown before and they came together as a team. Before long that attitude and commitment turned into goals, the first after probably the best move we’ve put together all season, some great determination in midfield from Joel Momoh and Denholm Brooks winning the ball from the opposition playing a nice one-two and a through ball to Austin Pierce who’s side footed finish tucked under the keeper was delightful. The second came not long after. Denholm Brooks delivery from corners was on point all game and this particular one was right on the head of Harvey King who nodded home to take us into half time a goal up.

Into the second half it was much the same, two evenly matched teams going at it but a game I thought we edged, playing some great football on a tough pitch and when Austin was clattered in the box we had a pen, unfortunately we missed the pen but the heads didn’t go down and we had what seems a continuation of corners and half chances, their defenders blocking everything and a keeper like a man possessed keeping us out. Into typical fashion Parkwyddn caught us out in the last minute after we failed to clear out lines at the back to bring it back level.

This felt like a turning point for this team, these young individuals turned into a proper team, showing traits we have lacked in previous seasons. The score didn’t matter today it was those 9 boys showing what it means to be part of a team.

Man of the Match was Josh Lowry, a young lad who never lets us down, he always has a great attitude, trains hard and will play wherever you need him to. For this game he played in net and pulled of 2 or 3 vital saves and his distribution was quality. ⚽️🩵❤️
