- Open Trophy Victory For Beechy Reserves
Making it three wins on the trot in the Manchester Football League were Beechfield United's Senior Reserves. For the second time in two weeks United's opponents were Dukinfield Town's Development team and Beechy completed a winning double when the teams met in the Open Trophy.
This Qualifying Round tie turned out to be a closely fought encounter that ended with United celebrating a deserved 1-0 away victory. There was controversy in the second half when Dukinfield were awarded a corner and though the hosts claimed for a goal the referee ruled that the ball didn't fully cross the line. This was totally justified because Beechy's players were convinced it should have been a goal kick for United. Ten minutes later following a free kick Beechy were rewarded with their match winning goal when from twenty five yards with his left foot Keenan Switzer fired the ball into the top corner of the net. Man of the Match was George Switzer who played an absolute captain's role as he led United to victory.
