- Beechy Reserves Win Nine Goal Thriller
Following a nine goal thriller at Salford Sports Village Beechfield United Reserves extended their unbeaten run to four games. United's opponents were top of Division 5 team Hindsford Development and thanks to a dynamic all-round display Beechy celebrated a 5-4 victory.
United made a bright start but wasted at least three good chances before Hindsford with virtually their first goal scoring opportunity took the lead. But the setback didn't deter Beechy and putting the pressure back onto Hindsford equalised via an individual goal from Man of the Match Tom McCandless who was a constant threat to the opposition throughout the ninety minutes. Just before half time United won a corner and after Keenan Switzer swung the ball into the area Deren Saunders was on target with a header to put Beechy 2-1 up at the break. The heavy pitch continued to cause problems for both teams as the second half developed and following a United defenders mistake Hindsford were gifted an unexpected equaliser. Beechy were showing a bit more hunger going forward but they went 3-2 down through an own goal after the visitors forced a corner but continuing to play the better football United drew level through a piece of individual brilliance from Keenan Switzer.
With ten minutes remaining Beechy's relentless attacking paid dividends when Mason White enjoying a rare outing in the team fired home United's fourth goal before Keenan Switzer with a swagger gave Beechy a 5-3 lead. Soon after the restart a Hindsford forward took full advantage after a goalkeeping error when he netted a fourth goal for the visitors to set up a grandstand finish. The alarm bells rang for United when Hindsford came close to forcing a draw in the final seconds after they put Beechy under real pressure but thanks to some valiant defending United survived a few late scares and were happy to hear the final whistle.
