- Beechy Ladies Make It Five Games Unbeaten
Following two postponed games Beechfield United Ladies Team were back in action in the Greater Manchester Womens League on Sunday 29th January 2023.
*Beechy who were at home to Bury FC Ladies retained second place in the Division 1 table when they extended their current unbeaten run to five games with a 3-0 victory. Making a confident start Bury Ladies forced some solid defending from Joanna Szafranska, Shauna Smith, Megan Mirfield and Kirsten Elrick. Finding a fluent attacking rhythm Beechy soon created some decent chances and a great effort by Natasha Herity was saved by the Bury keeper then from the rebound Aimee Greenwood almost forced the ball into the net. Stacy Partridge, Becky Topping and Becky Gregory were soon involved within the midfield area and after winning their first corner Beechy took the lead in the 8th minute.
From the flag kick Stacy Partridge curled the ball into the area and Becky Gregory directed a close range header into the roof of the net. After regaining possession Joanna Szafranska delivered a perfectly weighted pass onto Stacy Partridge who angled the ball across to Monique Pollard and Monique's powerful strike forced another save from the visitors keeper. More safety first defending from Kirtsten, Megan and Shauna dealt with a few Bury counter-attacks when the visitors strived to find and equalising goal. Bury's No25 won her teams first corner and twice after the ball had been sent into the area Stacy Partridge produced superb headed clearances.
After beating the offside trap the visitors No14 looked certain to score but Beechy keeper Elina Parker made an amazing save when she grabbed the ball on the goalline. Following more great link-up play between Stacy Partridge, Becky Topping and Becky Gregory Beechy carved out a few more decent chances and as Natasha and Monique worked hard down the wings Bury's defence was tested to the limit. Another cleverly disguised pass from Stacy sent Becky Gregory racing clear but an effort on target by Beechy No15 was fired straight at the keeper. Following a long range strike from the Bury No10 that flew over the crossbar the visitors forced another corner which was confidently dealt with by Elina Parker.
At the end of a swift move down the right wing Natasha Herity collected a through pass from Joanna Szafranska and fired the ball wide of the target. Joanna, Megan, Shauna and Kirsten continued to deny the visitors the chance of an equaliser as play drifted rapidly from end to end. A superb quick passing move involving Aimee Greenwood and Monique Pollard set-up a shooting opportunity for Stacy Partridge who's attempt from outside the area curled just wide of the target. Then Monique controlled a pass from Becky Gregory and after easily going past a Bury defender saw her effort bounce off the top of the crossbar.
Beechy kicked off the second half and following a brief spell of defending slowly dictated the pace of the game and on fifty two minutes went 2-0 up. An excellent move between Becky Gregory and Natasha Herity opened up the Bury defence and Becky Topping supplied a first-class finish. It was Natasha who provided an inch perfect pass to Joanna Szafranska who after joining an attack on the right wing fired the ball at the keeper. The visitors continued to create some promising forward moves which featured Bury Ladies best player who wore the No10 shirt. At times Beechy wasted possession but they quickly rectified the situation and great play by Aimee Greenwood sent Natasha Herity on a run between two defenders but a low drive from Beechy's No17 was saved by the Bury keeper at the near post.
After two half chances for Bury were wasted Beechy added goal number three when Natasha Herity exchanged passes with Player of the Match Becky Gregory who's cross into the area was palmed out to Stacy Partridge who on the half volley hammered the ball home low into the net. Monique Pollard produced a few surging runs down the left wing as Beechy maintained a strong attacking philosophy. Despite being forced into making a couple of comfortable saves Elina Parker was more of a spectator in the second half. The Bury Ladies keeper was in action again denying Becky Gregory a second goal after Shauna Smith sent a long raking pass through the midfield. During a late attacking flurry from the visitors more quality defending from Joanna, Megan, Shauna and Kirsten spoiled Bury's hopes of a consolation goal.
