- Three Games Unbeaten For Beechy Ladies
Playing at home for the third successive Sunday Beechy Ladies made it three games unbeaten following a 1-1 draw with AFC Stockport Ladies. (27/2/2022)
When this Greater Manchester Womens Division 1 match kicked off there was a slight breeze blowing across the pitch but compared to the previous Sunday weather conditions had vastly improved. An early attack by Beechy featured Kirsten Elrick, Sophie Addison and Aimee Greenwood who shot wide of the target. Beechy then forced their first corner and an effort by Stacy Partridge curled the wrong side of the post following Kirsten Elrick's accurate flag kick. Stockport Ladies launched some fast counter-attacks through the midfield but great defending by Bethany Hill and Alice Mosley denied the visitors an early goal. Beechy keeper Shaun Smith easily dealt with a high cross for the visitors No8 as Stockport Ladies focused most their attacking play on the right flank.
In midfield Becky Gregory, Becky Topping and Stacy Partridge were at the heart of some great moves as Beechy continued their impressive start against their opponents who won the previous game between the teams. Twice in quick succession Monique Pollard produced vital headed clearances when under pressure and shortly after she linked-up with Stacy Partridge to set-up up a half-chance for Becky Topping. Somehow a Stockport Ladies defender hooked the ball off the goalline following another Beechy corner then Sophie Addison was just off target after racing onto a cleverly disguised pass from Stacy Partridge. Some excellent defending Kirsten Elrick, Alice Mosley, Bethany Hill and Monique Pollard continued to limited the visitors to just a few decent chances.
More good all-round teamwork from Beechy was nearly rewarded when Becky Topping fired the ball at the keeper after a pinpoint pass from Aimee Armsden the a slick move involving Stacy Partridge, Aimee Armsden, Aimee Greenwood and Sophie Addison ended when the latter fired the ball into the side netting. Stockport Ladies forced a few free kicks and corners but it was from the penalty spot that the visitors eventually took the lead. In the 38th minute Beechy were victim of a rather harsh decision when the referee decided there had been contact on the visitors player in the area but the Stockport Ladies player definately took a dive. The visitors No7 hammered home the spot-kick but straight from the restart Beechy went close to an instant equaliser when Kirsten Elrick made a run down the wing and her cross was volleyed wide by Aimee Greenwood.
Substitutions by Beechy at the start of the second half included Megan Mirfield, Amie Barratt and Rosie Moorcroft replacing Aimee Armsden, Aimee Greenwood and Alice Mosley. Stockport Ladies No8 racing onto a long pass into Beechy's half beat the offside trap but a brilliant last ditch tackle by Player of the Match Bethany Hill rescued Beechy from possibly going 2-0 down. Monique Pollard also produced a great ball winning tackle when the visitors No21 got within shooting distance outside the edge. Beechy forced two successive corners before they got their equalising goal after fifty five minutes when following a free kick an effort by Sophie Addison was blocked in the area but Becky Topping got the vital final touch slotting the ball low past the keeper.
More counter-attacking football by Stockport Ladies created a few decent chances and the visitors No22 went close to scoring on a couple of occasions. Shauna Smith made one of her rare saves in the second half while at the other end of the pitch the visitors No1 remained the busiest of the two keepers. Alice Mosley was back on the pitch when she replaced Aimee Greenwood as the pace of the game retained its competitive edge. Stacy Partridge fired the ball at the keeper after a quick passing move involving Monique Pollard, Rosie Moorcroft and Amie Barratt.
Beechy kepet the pressure on their opponents and another great move between Becky Gregory, Amie Barratt and Sophie Addison deserved a better finish. Kirsten Elrick set-up Amie Barratt who fired the ball wide then at the end of Beechy's next attack Sophie Addison had another chance just before the final whistle. Beechy Ladies Squad for the game was: Shauna Smith, Bethany Hill, Kirsten Elrick, Alice Mosley, Monique Pollard, Becky Gregory, Stacy Partridge, Becky Topping, Amiee Greenwood, Sophie Addison, Aimee Armsden, Rosie Moorcroft, Megan Mirfield, Amie Barratt.
