POSTED: March 07 2024 20:18:35 By Keith Long - Junior Section Match Details 9th/10th March 2024

Due to an improvement in the weather most of Beechfield United's Junior Section teams were delighted to be in action on the 9th/10th March 2024.

*In the Bolton Bury and District League Beechy Under 16's HURRICANES were at home against Monton Sports and despite missing key players due to academic committments Beechy produced an amazing display. There was also a masterclass performance from Bandon Cini who scored four goals as the Hurricanes secured the three points following a 6-3 win in Section C. From a through pass by Alfie Gridlestone Brandon beat the keeper to the ball and after easily rounding him slotted it to the empty net. Beechy then got sloppy and conceded a goal against the run of play but Brandon restored the Hurricanes lead via a neat finsh and soon after Brandon set-up Ausou Elltomseneen who was on target with the third goal. Using his pace to easily get past a Monton defender Brandon completed his hat-trick to give the Hurricanes a 4-1 lead at half time. After the restart Beechy got careless and briefly gave up the momentum when they conceded a second goal. This led to a very shaky period for the Hurricanes who were awarded a penalty but the spot-kick was missed and Monton then on the attack made it 4-3. Kane Wood eased the pressure with a fifth Beechy goal and after a missed penalty by the visitors Brandon with the pick of the goals completed the scoring following a great piece of skill.

*Away to Longsight Eagles in the Salford and Districts League Supplementary Cup the Under 14's TORNADOES created a very good overall display but lost the game 2-1. The Beechy Boys had a host of chances but they couldn't get the all important equaliser. On target with the Tornadoes consolation goal was Team Captain Jayden Hoye.

*On Sunday morning the Under 12's THUNDER (9v9) were back in Division 4 action when they travelled to play Manchester Maccabi Cubs in what is usually a feisty affair between the teams. Thunder raced into a 3-0 lead inside ten minutes and it was Kristian Georgiev who opened the scoring with a nice chipped finish at the far post. Jacob McGoff got the second goal after an error by a Maccabi defender then Ajab Fakeeh scored goal number three when he beat a couple of opponents and fired the ball into the bottom corner of the net. Thinking the game was already won Thunder relaxed their grip and allowed Maccabi to reduce the arrears before half time. After the break Beechy regained their composure and were rewarded with a fourth goal courtesy of Jacob McGoff following some good team play. Maccabi were awarded a soft penalty despite one of their players deliberately taking a dive in the area and from the spot-kick the hosts made it 4-2. There were a few verbal exchanges between both teams during the second half but this didn't ruin the outcome and Beechy went home with three points and a 4-2 victory.

*Following two Saturday's without a game the Under 11's TORNADOES (9v9) were back in action in the Salford and Districts League with an away fixture against Salford Storm. This Blue Group encounter ended with a win for the Tornadoes thanks to two goals by Lynott Cassidy. Credit to Lucio Riva who assisted with both goals.

*Playing at Beech Farm for the first time in a few weeks were the Under 10's TORNADOES who met Salford Storm Tornadoes in the Supplementary Tournament. Beechy had already faced their opponents three times this season winning one and losing two with all three games decided by a single goal so another close contest was expected. Making a really good start the Tornadoes were far the better team in the first half and both Anika Wojciak and Denholm Brookes went close to opening the scoring. Beechy's goalkeeper Ralph Theaker who had replaced Oscar Bennetta who was unavailable had very little to do. Playing the game in their opponents half for the whole of the first twenty minutes the Tornadoes deserved to have a comfortable lead at half time. In the second half Beechy started to threaten more but Salford Storm fought back and Ralph Theaker was forced into action on several occasions when he made saves with his legs. Ralph and his defence that included various combinations of Jayden Lowe, Aiden Thompson, Reuben McCormick and Alex McGrory stood firm and earned the Tornadoes their third clean sheet of the season. Beechy almost won the tie in normal time but a superb effort from Sammy Omorgie flew inches over the crossbar. Ryan Cordingley worked hard throughout the game and Freya Quinn was always a threat from her position out wide. During the spot-kick decider Beechy's Man of the Match Ralph Theaker saved three of Salford Storm's penalties while Beechy scored three of their's through Aiden Thompson, Anika Wojciak and Jayden Lowe who netted the winning penalty.

*The Under 10's STORM played their final Supplementary Tournament fixture against Wythenshawe Wanderers knowing they were out of the competition but fully determined not to finish bottom of the group. Starting on the front foot Beechy looked really composed on the ball while having to deal with a tough playing surface and always trying to play good football via great link-up play in midfield Storm created several chances. Despite Storm's dominance the first half remained goalless until a corner taken by Jack Sinclair resulted in Harry Wharton poking the ball home in front of the Wythenshawe keeper for his first goal of the season. Beechy continued to press hard and while the game was competitive especially in the midfield it was Storm's accurate passing that was the difference. The Wythenshawe keeper made some good saves as he denied Beechy at least a three or four goal lead at the break. The half time team talk was an easy one, more of the same from the Beechy Boys who absolutely delivered. Storm went up another gear as they kept Wythenshawe under pressure thanks to more great work in midfield plus some pinpoint passing. Max Scholfield, Kobe Glass, Josh Lowery, Barkley Pope and Austin Pierce all put in a proper shift as they out battled the opposition while displaying real quality on the ball. Keeper Jayden Royle had a quiet game but his distribution was the best he has produced this season while Harry Wharton, Sebastian Jones and Scott Ellis-Smith were rock solid at the back. This was a great team performance with every Beechy player making a major contribution in their one goal victory. It was a difficult choice for Man of the Match but the award went to Harry Wharton.

*Booking their place in knockout stages of the Supplementary Tournament were Beechy Under 10's LIGHTNING who made it six wins on the trot. On an Astroturf Pitch at Eccles College the Beechy Boys knew that another victory would see them make progress in the competition. Lightning had alresady beaten opponents Winton Wanderers five weeks earlier so they were hoping that concentration and a good work ethic would guarantee another win. Making a great start to the game Beechy's sharp passing, ball winning tackles and hard work all over the pitch was key to their success. It wasn't long before Lightning took the lead when Kayson Gregg was on target slotting the ball home from inside the box then Eshan Shanahan was next on the scoresheet with a fine finish and to cap off a fantastic half of football Crewe Reeves scored a great third goal for Beechy. The boys did exactly what was asked of them at half time keeping their shape and continuing to work hard in the second half to see out the game. Winton Wanderers scored their only goal of the tie with their only chance of the second period. Kayson Gregg was Lightning's Player of the Match for his hard work, great passing and good attitude.

*Back in Salford and Districts League Red Group action were the Under 9's STORM. Away to Old Trafford Juniors Beechy came out on top following a great game of mini-soccer that included nine goals. Man of the Match Alfie Heighway, Bobby Lowe plus an own goal made up Storm's tally. Beechy's other players were Seth Barber, Kade Doyle, Harry Heathcote-Clare, Jacob Foster, Oscar Pugh, Oscar-Bobby Berry, Harry Chambers, Isaac Hargreaves and George Savage. There were assists for the goals from Bobby, Oscar P and Oscar B.

*In a winner takes all Supplementary Tournament tie the Under 8's THUNDER faced Monton Eagles and to guarantee the game went ahead it was played on an Astroturf Pitch. Beechy started the match on the ascendancy playing some good football and after five minutes there were joyous celebrations when Thunder took the lead with a goal of the season contender from George Kelly who hit a long range volley into the net. Straight from the restart Monton Eagles equalised via there big defender who fired the ball into the roof of the net from well inside his own half. Beechy responded and a great move between Jude Bond and Harrison Spencer set-up George Kelly but his fine effort was saved by the Eagles keeper then another long range strike found the back of the Beechy net to give the Eagles the lead at half time. A third Monton goal after the interval saw some Beechy heads drop slightly and the tie was out of Thunder's reach when the Eagles scored another three goals. Working hard to the end Beechy forced several great saves from from the Monton keeper. For a superb defensive prformance and attitude Grayson Owen was named Thunder's Man of the Match.
