- Beechy Eyeing-Up Some Silverware.
Following a narrow 2-1 victory over a strong West Didsbury outfit Beechfield United Saturday Morning Senior Team booked their place in the final of the Steeles Shield. Looking comfortable in possession Beechy made a positive start but wasted numerous clear-cut chances in the opening twenty minutes. Suddenly changing their pattern of play United lost their momentum and this led to a rather scrappy finish to the first half. Responding to clear instructions at half time the Beechy players quickly got their act together and very soon were dictating the pace of the game. Continuing to pump long balls to feed their forwards West Didsbury took the lead in the 53rd minute. Against the run of play a misplaced header by a Beechy defender was latched onto by an unmarked West Didsbury player who hammered the ball home from 20 yards. Quickly making a substitution United changed to a back three and this tactic started to pay dividends.
Damon Whitbread injected more pace into the attacks and instantly United were back on top. Involved in a superb passing move down the right flank were Wes Pierce and Scott Foulds who's subsequent shot was well saved by the West Didsbury keeper but the lively Kane Brannigan slotted in the rebound for 1-1 on 58 minutes. Then five minutes later Beechy were ahead when an accurate through ball from midfield found Kane Brannigan who went clear and in a one-on-one with the keeper calmly fired the ball into the net. Beechy remained well organised all over the pitch and were able to celebrate the win and a chance of getting their name on some silverware. Kane Brannigan and Kyle Walton shared the Man of the Match Award.
