- Junior Section Match Details 14/3/2020
Beechfield United Under 13's Typhoon were very unlucky to lose out following their Salford and Districts League Supplementary Cup away game at Winton Wanderers Gladiators.
In a close contest that could have gone either way the Beechy boys were left feeling rightly aggrieved regarding some of the decisions that went against them. Man of the Match Ryan Law and Reece James with two goals were on target for Typhoon, Reece's second goal came via a last minute free kick into the top corner of the net to salvage a draw. The teams had to take penalties to decide the winner and unfortunately Beechy keeper Peter Ellis couldn't be the hero and Typhoon lost the shoot-out 7-6. Typhoon didn't deserve to be the losing team and the players can be very proud of how they stuck together and battled throughout the game.
Away to Chadderton Park Lions in the Premiership Cup the Under 15's Storm made a disastrous start when they found themselves 3-0 down after ten minutes. As they recovered from the setback Beechy produced a real gutsy response and reduced the arrears with goals from Harry Worsley and Archie Cooper but Storm came up short and Chaddy End were 3-2 winners at the final whistle. Storm's Best Player award went to Ben Howard.
At home against Unsworth Raiders in the NBJFL's Championship Division the Under 15's Thunder were searching for their first win of 2020. It was mostly one way traffic as the Raiders dominated the first half and the visitors made the breakthrough late on and held a 1-0 lead at the break. Showing a greater intent Thunder made a promising start in the second half and Man of the Match Andrew Woodward scored what proved to be Beechy's consolation goal. Thunder threw the game away due to a multitude of errors which included giving away two penalties in as many minutes and Beechy ended up on the wrong end of a 5-1 score line.
On the Astroturf Pitch at David Lewis Playing Fields the Under 16's Tornadoes met FC Sharples who occupied second place in the Section D table. For large parts of this Bolton Bury and District League the Tornadoes were the better team but silly mistakes cost Beechy dearly. FC Sharples held a 2-1 half time lead and thanks to a winning goal in the dying seconds the visitors won the match 4-3. Billy Wadeson (penalty) Mathew Bennett and Kean Roberts scored the goals for the Tornadoes who's Man of the Match was Callum Roberts.
Involved in a great game of mini-soccer with De La Salle were Beechy Under 8's Storm. Playing some of their best passing football of the season Storm raced into a commanding lead thanks to goals from Jacob Wood and Oliver Cooper, with Jacob scoring via a header direct from a corner. But Beechy got over confident and allowed De La Salle back into this Blue Group match with Storm's opponents frequently catching them on the break despite the best efforts of goalkeeper Sophie Price. The second half was tit-for-tat that saw both teams working hard, Thomas Brady defended superbly and Oliver Cooper was a constant threat to Winton's defenders. In the end a last kick of the game equaliser by De La Salle earned them as share of fourteen goals.
