A Breezy Cold Morning just off the Old Red Cat Lane and Beech Farm. The Man-Made Astroturf enclosure closer to resembling the historic Bear Pit and Bull Rings (that once stood a stones-throw North of the Farm) than a majestic canvass for the Art that would unfold!
The Beechy Boys were all geared up and prepped with a good warm up session, acclimatised and tuned in ready for this high stake fixture
The game as expected got off to a heated start with the crowd revved up from the off. Early battles ensued on the pitch with the Moorside Team well organised and showing some nice passing and movement. The Osprey (Bobby) was called in to action early on and grasped the ball well, with his Talons obviously sharpened it was going to take something special to get past him today.
It wasn't long before Beechfield settled and their natural ability, desire and training took over with some very heavy pressure in the Moorside Half. Reni and Louie testing the midfield, defence and keeper continuously. The Moorside defence were becoming mesmerised and it wasn't long before Louie was able to get off a shot on goal which was well saved by the keeper. Angelo covered the back line breaking down play at every opportunity not giving Moorside time to play. Angelo again coming out on top won a throw in, taking it quickly to find Louie who was again denied by the keeper.
Elliot was in full Gazelle mode covering the ground well helping break down the play of Moorside and keep possession. Reni - showing skill beyond his years and running riot down the wing came close to scoring and the crowd were thinking could these missed chances come back to bite Beechfield. Angelo, again closing down play enabled Beechfield to win a corner through some fantastic dribbling from Louie. The ball falling to Elliot he managed to pull off a screamer of a shot missing the net by a few inches.. The Beechy Boys were starting to gain momentum, as were the chants from the terraces but both keepers were showing it wasn't going to be a rugby score today.
Playing out from the back Beechfield were able to get the ball to Rene who pulled it out on to the wing taking on several players in the process, he broke free of the marker breaking down the right wing and taking a quick glance up fancied a shot and with a superb strike the ball went screaming past the keeper wrong siding him and in to the bottom left corner of the net. A stunning goal to break the deadlock.
The attacks continued with Che and Rio relentless with breaking down the Moorside play, tackling and counter attacking. Bobby kept things cool at the back and had the quick thinking to pass out to Reni who managed to take the player on and pass down the line to Louie who skipped past two unleashing a shot only to be denied again by the keeper. Bodie heavily involved in the action in Midfield managed to win some tough challenges in the middle of the park and Rio who with great skill, courage and determination took control of the ball, dribbled round and through several players before skilfully placing the ball in the back of the net making it a well deserved second Beechy goal .
Tough tackling Jose made sure Moorside were pressured in to mistakes and turn defending in to attacking, the boys defending high up the pitch keeping the pressure on and in the Moorside half. Even so, the Osprey still had a part to play and it took Team effort to keep Moorside at bay. Rio was becoming a nightmare for Moorside and with Che, Bodie and Jose backing him up attacked the Moorside defence with speed and ferocity that could not be matched. Heavy accurate tackling from Che and Elliott closed down play brilliantly.
It was a tough workout for the whole Team at this point, the work ethic and Team togetherness shining through to help cover and protect Bobby in net. Moorside could not compete with the speed at which Beechfield could pass, move and defend and when faced with the likes of Reni who can take players on at ease but then make a goal saving challenge it is easy to understand why. Jose had some fun on the attack and was unlucky to run out of ground, the smaller Bear Pit difficult for the Beechy Boys to really find their range.
Louie on one of his signature dribbling runs was unlucky not to have a hat-trick today but managed to win another corner. The Man of the match Reni managed to get on the end of it and this week forget the indigestion, Reni was applying the lethal injection to kill off the Moorside Team. A really toughly fought game but well-deserved win for the Beechy Boys!
Another superb Team effort by all of the players even with a couple not feeling 100% they turned up in good time, put themselves out there and gave it their all. Seeing the Players (with encouragement) finding their natural positions and starting to learn the game and get the time in, especially for the less experienced is great to see. A fantastic win in this exciting Beechy Boys saga.
