- Junior Section Match Details 16th/17th March 2024
There was a fairly busy Saturday Morning in the Junior Section that produced several winning results in the Salford and Districts Junior League.
*Creating one of the best performances in the Mini-Soccer Section were Beechy Under 8's STORM who were at home to Winton Wanderers. Seven days earlier the teams met in the Supplementary Tournament and Winton won the tie but on Saturday creating a brilliant all-round display Storm were just minutes away from winning this Green Group game. Both teams served up a feast of football on an uneven playing surface and at the final whistle shared two goals. Sonny Cox with a superb goal was on target for Storm who's Player of the Match was Alfie Garner. Beechy's other players who starred in this glittering display were Rocky Lenhan, Corey Davies, Jacob McLoughlin, Charlie Schofield, Jude Aimson and Lucas King.
*Beechy Under 8's THUNDER were away at Ordsall Cubs in the Supplementary Tournament and whilst the team couldn't make progress in the competition their aim was to get back to winning ways which they did. Ordsall took the lead early in the game but Jude Bond who was involved in some good link-up play with Antonio Embalo equalised with a long range effort into the roof of the net. The first half was evenly balanced but Beechy dominated the second period and George Kelly put Thunder in front from a free kick then Oscar Spencer extended the lead cutting in from the left and finding the back of the net. There were a multitude of chances for Beechy that narrowly missed the target and though Ordsall scored a late goal from the penalty-spot Thunder hung on to secure the victory. Man of the Match was Harry Wright for an accomplished midfield performance.
*Involved in a really good game of football were the Under 9's THUNDER who produced a superb display in first half of their Blue Group away fixture with Swinton Warriors. At the break Beechy held a three goal lead but due to tiredness and having just six players Thunder unfortunately conceded four goals. This was an amazing effort from Beechy who's goals were netted by Sonny Phillips and Harley Cosgrove-Newby (who scored two) both created by Hugo Balogun (cross and volley)
*Goals galore were the main feature in the Under 9's STORM versus Moorside Rangers Yellows Red Group game. The Beechy Boys who are in very good form this season in the Salford and Districts League produced another top-class performance against their local rivals. Goalscorers for Storm were Isaac Hargreaves, Bobby Lowe, Kade Doyle and Alfie Heighway.
*The Under 10's STORM faced De La Salle for the third time this season and Beechy's opponents had won the two previous games between the teams. Coming on the back of their victory over Wythenshawe Wanderers Beechy spirits were high and the boys absolutely delivered. The first half of this Red Group contest was a tense affair as Storm limited De La Salle to long range efforts confidently dealt with by keeper Jayden Royle. At the other end of the pitch Beechy created some very good chances after great work from Barkley Pope and Austin Pierce but the De La Salle keeper responded with several top class saves. After a goalless first half the second half was much the same as a great defensive display from Storm was the foundation of their impressive performance which caused De La Salle lots of problems. Against the run of play De La Salle took the lead after a solo effort from their main striker but Beechy produced a positive response. Storm went up a level as they pushed hard for the equaliser and there several chances on offer until Beechy won a free kick and from twenty yards Man of the Match Max Schofield stepped up and hammered the ball home to set-up a grandstand finish with ten minutes to play. During that period the action was end to end with both defences and keepers coming out on top.
*Away to Winton Mavericks the Under 10's TORNADOES went into their Supplementary Tournament game in good form. Beechy knew that even if they won the match it wouldn't be enough to reach the final stage of the competition however a victory would secure a respectful second place in Group H. Winton had more of the ball in the opening exchanges but the Tornadoes took the lead when Denholm Brookes fired the ball home from the right hand side of the box. Winton rallied after going behind and scored two quick goals before half time to lead at the break. Early in the second half Winton added another couple of goals before Man of the Match Denholm Brookes reduced the arrears from the penalty spot. As the Tornadoes tried to put more pressure on their opponents they had further chances but pushing forward more left gaps at the back and taking advantage Winton scored a fifth goal. Showing great character Beechy fought back and Anika Wojciak with a fine strike from the edge of the box got a third goal for the Tornadoes before the end. Beechy were without their regular goalkeeper so special thanks must go to Ralph Theaker and Anika Wojciak who performed admirably as stand-in replacements.
*There was a local derby game between Beechy Under 12's THUNDER (9v9) and Moorside Rangers Blues. In this Division 4 encounter Rangers made a bright start keeping Thunder under pressure via some rally quick attacks. Beechy gradually grew into the game as they kept their opponents pinned in their own half and Theo McNulty was a constant threat in the midfield running at the Rangers defence and playing some brilliant through balls. It was one of these occasions that resulted in Thunder opening the scoring when Ajab Fakeeh latched onto one of Theo's passes and chipped the ball over the advancing keeper then a great chance for Beechy to extend their lead went begging when Theo and Ajab combined again. Rangers equalised just before half time and the teams shared a 1-1 scoreline at the break. The second half was exciting, tight, tense and full of quality from both teams and Thunder regained the lead through Samuel Sulmataj who broke the offside trap and moved the ball clear of a Rangers defender before adding a brilliant finish. As both teams pushed for more goals unfortunately one wrong decision gifted Rangers a second equaliser and this very enjoyable game finished 2-2.
*The Salford and Districts League Division 6 fixture between the Under 12's TORNADOES and Salford Storm Hurricanes was a game of two halves. Beechy's opponents took the lead and after the Tornadoes lost their momentum they conceded two more and were losing 3-0 at half time. After a vital team talk during the break Beechy played much better in the second half and a goal by Thomas Brady reduced the arrears and the Tornadoes began to dominate the game. A last minute goal for Salford Storm gave the result a slightly isleading scoreline. There were fantastic performances from both Abdelmalik Zuway and Mahan Mirzakhani.
*In the Bolton Bury and District League the Under 16's HURRICANES had a tricky away game with Prestwich Marauders. During this Section C encounter Beechy were victim of a few bad decisions and eventually suffered a 4-1 defeat. The Hurricanes worked hard but lost the midfield battle and had to thank stand-in keeper Alfie Gridlestone for his Man of the Match performance. Brandon Cini scored Beechy's consolation goal.
