Beechy U/11's Storm versus Manchester Celtic 15/3/2025
U11's Storm were at home against a team we have never played before but who have beaten everyone in the league and the Beechy Boys rose to the challenge. The first 10 minutes saw Celtic’s dominate the ball but creating very little and as our confidence grew Storm started to find their passing rhythm and creating some good chances. After a few near misses Max Schofield picked up ball in midfield and smashed the ball towards goal, the keeper parried it but into his own net to put a goal up. Tails up and dominating the midfield Beechy continued to press but just couldn’t find a second and we duly punished when, when against the run of play Celtics broke into the box and found their striker who placed the ball coolly into the bottom corner. This Beechy team though have bags of heart and they didn’t let it get to them, they continued to dominate in midfield and with confidence sprayed the ball around and just before the half time whistle Joel Momoh and Denholm Brooks played a nice 1-2 in midfield and played the ball out to Ismail on the left wing. He beat his man with ease and side footed into the bottom corner to put Storm ahead again.
Into the second half and shooting down the hill the boys continued to win their individual battles and pressed with speed and confidence and rushed Celtic into mistakes. Ismail was a constant thorn but it was Barkley Pope who drove in from the right with a mazy run only to be chopped down in the box. After week of wanting to take a pen we felt it was his turn and he didn’t disappoint, side footing into the bottom corner. As the half drew on Celtics became more desperate and committed players forward but some solid defending from the Beechy back line limited them to half chances and we were always dangerous on the break and it was a break that led to the fourth goal. The ball knocked out wide to Barkely who squared to Ismail, he drove into the box and got his shot off, the keeper fumbled it and it trickled into the corner of the net. Beechy continued to be dangerous on the break and Denholm hit the bar after a rasping drive from outside the box and Ismail hit a power drive from all of 20 yards which again rattled the crossbar. And that was that a fantastic performance, it felt like a coming of age situation where these boys really stepped up for themselves but also as a team. A top performance capped off by a Man of the Match display in midfield from Joel who was majestic both on and off the ball.
