Beechfield United U7 Storm versus AFC Urmston Meadowside Bears
First game of the newly formed Red Group saw both teams who moved from the Blue upwards with a complete performance with the Storm back on grass.
The players took a bit of time to get used to the extra effort and speed on the grass though through a couple of excellent passing moves Beechfield unlocked the defence with Archie being free in the centre to get the first with an accomplished finish with the second not far behind. Archie, seemingly could not miss powering in a third with a cross in from James on the right to get his hat trick.
A free kick conceded with a deflected shot making its way past Alfie in net who still, despite the deflection, managed to get a hand to it brought the visitors a goal.
No panic by Beechy with Archie turning from goal scorer to creator this time crossing in from the right and Ralph scoring his first from a shot in the box. This was then followed by Archie’s 4th, 5th goals with one being a fantastic mazy run from the left. From the kick off Ralph was afforded space and scored the goal of the game powering in from distance past a goal keeper who had made some magnificent saves.
As always it seems, the combinations of George, Freddie and Alfie rotating in defence giving a solid platform.
Going into half time well in control power play was implemented making it trickier to navigate though Storm continued to control the game - a burst from Henry and a foul conceded gave our free kick specialist his opportunity and duly finished from a way outside the penalty area. The score could’ve increased again with a long range effort from Freddie hitting the bar and a powerful run by George taking it past 2 defenders before the ball squirming to James who had his shot save.
A period in the middle of the second half provided Urmston some joy and Vincent showed great concentration to make a couple of key interceptions in goal to maintain his personal clean sheet.
James who already had 2 assists to his name desperate to score has taken shots from all areas with the goal keeper & post denying him on multiple occasions though one debatable shot (maybe a cross) was spilled by the goal keeper let Alfie who had moved into the striking position score from blank range - providing James with a hat trick of assists. Alfie’s James Maddison esq dart celebration entertaining the crowd…
Really strong performance from Storm who maintained a solid passing performance for most of the game.
MOTM:
Archie - almost unanimously chosen by the players as MOTM who blew away the opposition in the first half with 5 goals all finished with the highest quality and an assist. Special mentions to Ralph who had an excellent first half performance as well as James due to his industry in attack and defence being our chief creator of the day.
