POSTED: March 23 2023 10:02:45 By Keith Long - Successive 2-0 Defeat For Beechy Ladies

On Sunday 11th March 2023 Beechfield United Ladies suffered a successive Division One 2-0 defeat in the Greater Manchester Womens League.

*Due to a shortage of players for their away game with Manchester Laces Beechy welcomed back Krystal Hayward and Sophie Addision into the team. Joanna Szafranska volunteered to take on the role of goalkeeper in the first half and on a very poor pitch Beechy kicked-off with just ten players on the pitch. Manchester Laces quickly found a good attacking rhythm forcing some early defending from Beechy's back four Krystal Hayward, Alice Mosley, Stacy Partridge and Monique Pollard. Following Beechy's first corner taken by Natasha Herity a close range header from Becky Gregory flew wide of the target. The uneven playing surface made control of the ball difficult for both teams but Laces dealt better with the on-going situation.

The hosts took the lead after twelve minutes when Beechy lost possession in midfield and at the end of a swift attack Laces No14 lobbed the ball into the net. Both Natasha Herity and Amie Barrett saw efforts from about twenty yards saved by the Laces keeper but overall Beechy struggled to find the right pass to open up the hosts defence. Laces created numerous attacks down both wings but Krystal Hayward and Beechy's Player of the Match Monique Pollard responed with some superb ball winning tackles. In the 32nd minute Beechy were back to full strength when Megan Mirfield arrived after travelling from work to play.

Aimee Greenwood was inches away from supplying the finish following a great through ball from Stacy Partridge then Becky Gregory and Amie Barrett combined to create a chance for Sophie Addison who's effort was saved by the Laces keeper. The game continued to be a scrappy affair and despite several attempts to find an equalising goal Beechy still trailed 1-0 at half time. Aimee Greenwood was Beechy's goalkeeper in the second half and she was quickly in action dealing with a curling cross from the left wing. An attempt to score by Stacy Partridge saw the ball deflect off a Laces defender for another Beechy corner and following the flag kick the hosts managed to scramble the ball to safety.

A poor decision by the referee resulted in Laces winning a free kick and the hosts doubled their lead with a close range finish from their No10. Beechy continued to toil non-stop as they searched for a goal and a possible comeback but chances were few and far between. Some solid defending from Krystal Hayward, Alice Mosley, Megan Mirfield, Joanna Szafranska and Monique Pollard dealt with more pressure as Laces strived to score again. Beechy ended the match on the attack and long range efforts by Natasha Herity and Stacy Partridge were dealt with by the Laces keeper.
