POSTED: March 24 2022 13:20:09 By Keith Long - Cup Defeat Ends Ten Game Unbeaten Run

In the Bolton Bury and District League Beechfield United U/17's Thunder lost for the first time in eleven games when they were beaten by Unsworth Raiders in the Players Cup.

*On a heavy pitch Thunder struggled to get any meaningful possession in the opening ten minutes of this quarter-final tie. Beechy did create a decent chance and would have taken the lead but the Unsworth keeper responed when he produced a fine save. On the other hand Unsworth also found it difficult to adapt to the pitch conditions but following one move the hosts got behind Thunder's defence and scored the opening goal. Now on the ascendancy Unsworth were able to double their lead and the hosts defence remained well organised as Beechy strived to find an equaliser before half time.

In the second half Thunder were the better team as they moved the ball much quicker in the vital areas of the pitch and with twenty minutes left to play Beechy were rewarded for their persistency when Prince Idusuyi was on target to reduce the arrears. Tom Cox came close to making it 2-2 but the Unsworth goalie was well positioned to make a comfortable save and with five minutes to go Thunder took the risk trying to get something out of the game. But Beechy were caught out when a long ball over the defence resulted in Unsworth adding a third goal which guaranteed the hosts a 3-1 victory. Jack Davies was Thunder's Man of the Match.
