POSTED: March 26 2024 18:01:31 By Keith Long - Junior Section Match Details 23rd/24th March 2024

Just three postponements and four teams without a game in the Junior Section on Saturday and Sunday 24th/25th March 2024.

*Playing on an unusually narrow pitch Beechy Under 10's STORM were in action against Swinton Wolves and it took the Beechy Boys the first ten minutes to adjust to the conditions. After dealing with some early pressure Storm gradually got a better foothold in this Red Group game as they started to cause problems for their opponents. Beechy took the lead when following a corner the ball broke to Harvey King who squared it to Scott Ellis-Smith who added a fine finish into the bottom corner of the net and after the goal Storm had more control and always looked dangerous going forward. The second half was much the same, two evenly matched teams, end to end action and a really good game to watch. Beechy missed a few decent chances before Swinton Wolves got back level but after more missed chances Storm regained the lead. On target was Joshua Lowery who produced a great piece of skill when from twenty five yards lobbed the ball over the Swinton keeper. The game included a frantic closing period with both teams creating chances and Swinton Wolves managed to find a late equaliser. Storm's Man of the Match was Scott Ellis-Smith who deputised in midfield.

*On the Astroturf Pitch at Moorside High School the Under 10's LIGHTNING met Moorside Rangers Green. With this being a local derby game in the Green Group the Beechy players were really eager to put on a good display. In the early stages Lightning bossed the game and took a deserved lead when Crewe Reeves powered home the ball from outside the box. Beechy then seemed to lose a bit of concentration and following a couple of mistakes Moorside Rangers equaliser then the hosts took the lead. But Lightning responded well and it was George Richardson who got Beechy back level after his powerful shot sent the ball flying into the bottom corner of the net. In the second half Lightning upped their game and displaying their impressive fitness outworked their opponents in all areas of the pitch. Beechy regained the lead through Kayson Gregg who slotted the ball low under the keeper and Lightning were guaranteed the win when Michael Schofield took the ball out of defence and played a great pass to Austin Fillingham who hammered the ball into the net from fifteen yards. Beechy's Player of the Match was Michael Schofield for a strong defensive display.

*The Under 10's TORNADOES had a friendly match away against Winton Wanderers Mavericks and lost by the odd goal in five. Goalscorers for the Tornadoes were Denholm Brookes and Ryan Cordingley who shared the Player of the Match award with Aiden Thompson. Ryan impressed with his work rate plus a great finish for his goal while Aiden had a solid game as stand-in goalkeeper.

*Following a fantastic team performance Beechy Under 9's STORM celebrated victory over Salford Storm. In this Red Group game Beechy dominated the early period of the action but against the run of play Salford Storm took the lead. But Beechy turned it round and goals by Seth Barber and Kade Doyle eventually secured the win. Man of the Match was Harry Chambers. Reference to this season this was Beechy's first victory over their opponents after the three previous games were draws.

*Beechy Under 11's TORNADOES (9v9) faced Parkwyddn Juniors in their latest Supplementary Tournament fixture. After making a poor start the Tornadoes found themselves three goals down but they fought back superbly and scored five goals in the second half and were unlucky not to win the tie in normal time. With the teams level after sixty minutes a penalty kick decider took place to decide the winner and unfortunately Beechy lost the shoot-out. Zachary MacKinnon, Lynott Cassidy, Kian Lewis and Archie Charles fired home the goals for the Tornadoes in normal time while assists came via Luke Bennett and Lucio Riva.

*In the 3rd Round of the Challenge Cup the Under 12's THUNDER (9v9) were drawn to play Winton Wanderers Ultras. Beechy's opponents play in Division 1 in the Salford and Districts League while Thunder are in Division 4 so a tough game was expected. With Thunder's main defender Jermaine Rose absent things got worse after sixty seconds when Beechy's ace goalscorer Ajab Fakeeh was unable to continue due to an injury. Winton Ultras played some good football as they controlled large parts of the game but Thunder worked hard to contain their opponents and goalkeeper Freddie Jones made some superb saves. Winton finally made the breakthrough when a terrific volley nestled in the top corner of the net and almost immediately after half time Beechy were under pressure. Thunder had a valid goal wrongly disallowed when Jacob McGoff in an offside position intercepted a pass back to the keeper by a Winton defender. More frustration for Thunder occurred when they had another goal disallowed after Jacob McGoff put the ball in the net but he was judged to be in an offside position. Shortly after Winton took control and eventually secured a comfortable victory when Thunder lost their momentum. Despite the defeat if Beechy win their final Supplementary Tournament group game they will book their place in the knockout stage of the competition.

*On Saturday morning Radwan Fakeeh with a brace plus a goal by Josh Beddows earned the Under 14's TORNADOES a fully deserved 3-0 home win over Signol Athletic Yellow in the Salford and Districts League Supplementary Cup. Starting on 6th April 2024 against Winton Wanderers Spartans the Tornadoes have three consecutive home games in the Supplementary Cup.
