- Players Cup Defeat For U/15's Hurricanes
On the Astroturf Pitch at Hacken Lane Beechy U/15's HURRICANES met Bolton Lads in the Players Cup and lost this well contested 3rd Round tie 5-3.
*The Hurricanes made the best possible start by taking the lead within ninety seconds when Kane Wood opened the scoring after great individual play from Oghenekaro Igobe. Following a move on the left wing Bolton Lads equalised in the 4th minute then shortly after the hosts No11 blasted the ball high over the crossbar. As the Hurricanes came under pressure Tanatswa Chirwa, Ausou Eltomseneen, Nicholas Green and Noah O'Connor produced some valiant defending. Substitute Joshua Rotherham was thrust into the action just before Beechy regained the lead courtesy of an accurate left footed finish from Kane Wood.
Hurricanes goalkeeper Callum Hanvey made a fantastic save to deny an effort on target from the Lads Club No10 as the action drifted rapidy from end to end. Joshua Rotherham supplied an inch perfect pass and after displaying superb footwork Oghenekaro Igboje put Beechy 3-1 via a decisive finish. After nineteen minutes Lads Club forced an error in Hurricanes defence and the hosts No11 reduced the arrears when he fired the ball low into the corner of the net. Ethan Mangwiro produced several moments of quality play in midfield while Oliver Sheridan's first involvement was an excellent piece of defending when under pressure.
Both Mason Gowenlock and Mikey Munden got their chance to shine as the Hurricanes continued to use the leagues permitted roll-on-roll-off substitution rule. An attempt to to score by Noah O'Connor was just off target then the Lads Club keeper saved a fine effort from Oliver Sheridan. Slack defending in the penalty area from Beechy gifted the hosts their equalising goal and the teams shared a 3-3 scoreline when the referee ended the first half. At the start of the second half Marshall Kent became the Hurricanes latest substitute as Beechy restarted with a 4-3-3 system. Bolton Lads forced four successive throw-ins and a cross from the right wing set-up a headed chance for the hosts No12.
The Hurricanes defence were forced to deal with constant Lads Club pressure and after a powerful free kick from the hosts No20 hit the crossbar the rebound was headed wide from close range. Man of the Match Kane Wood created a strong mazy solo run and Ethan Mangwiro almost turned the ball into the net. Callum Hanvey made a brilliant save following a swerving half volley from Bolton Lads No8 but unfortunately the Beechy keeper couldn't prevent the home side from taking a 4-3 lead. Beechy continued to work hard in an attempt to get a better foothold on the game but Callum remained the busiest of the two goalkeepers.
Lads Club maintained their threat from corners and the Hurricanes briefly survived thanks to more heroic defending but a quick passing move and fine finish resulted in the hosts going 5-3 up. Karo who was back on the pitch when he replaced Bradley set-up a decent chance for Joshua who was inches away from a close range finish. Hurricanes back four relied on more brave defending as the hosts produced a wave of attacks and though Beechy strived to find a couple of late goal they just ran out of time.
