- Junior Section Match Details 30/4/2022
In this last weekend of the penultimate month of the 2021/2022 season Beechy Under 16's Storm were the first team in the Junior Section to complete their league fixtures.
*In the Bolton Bury and District League the Under 16's Storm ended their season in Section C with a 2-0 home win over Bolton Lads and Girls and occupy top spot in the league table. Storm's players and team officials will be hoping that title challengers East Leigh Juniors who have games in hand drop points giving them a chance to be crowned champions. Beechy quickly took control of the game against Bolton Lads and Aaron Cardall went close to an early goal with a great shot which forced a save from the visitors keeper.
Harry Patterson also went close before Evan Hodson-Griffiths went on a solo run and slotted the ball home to open the scoring. Beechy retained their 1-0 lead at half time and after the break were in complete control and Storm added their second goal when Evan Hodson-Griffiths beat the keeper to the ball and tapped it into the net. There were chances in the late stages of the game for both Harry Patterson and Alfie Jones.
*Also in the BBJFL Beechy Under 15's Typhoon made hard work of beating opponents Culcheth Athletic Cobras on their way to securing a 3-2 home victory. Making a fast start Typhoon could easily have been three goals up in the opening minutes but they missed two good chances while the Culcheth keeper turned a shot onto the crossbar. Beechy played some lovely football with the midfield trio of Sam Henderson, Sonny O'Brien and Reece James controlling the game. After more missed chances Typhoon finally opened the scoring through Cole Winstanley who slotted the ball home after a one-on-one with the keeper. Daniel Hesketh put Typhoon 2-0 up via an excellent finish before half time when he stepped inside his marker and curled the ball into the top corner of the net.
The pattern of the match was much the same at the start of the second half with Beechy the better team but Typhoon gifted Culcheth a penalty and from the resulting spot-kick the visitors reduced the arrears. During a period of pressure from the visitors Liam Peers produced a brillant last ditch tackle and after their equalising goal it looked as if Culcheth would grab an unexpected point. However Jamie Withington was on target with Typhoon's late fully deserved winning goal and if they'd been more clinical Beechy would have won by a greater margin.
*Following a first-class performance the Under 14's Storm were rewarded with a 4-2 away win over Ladybridge Tigers. The hosts couldn't cope with Beechy's accurate passing moves and through balls to star striker Joshua Rotherham who helped himself to a first half hat-trick. After the break Ladybridge got a better foothold into the game and pulled a goal back but Joshua Rotherham was on target again when he restored Storm's three goal advantage with another excellent finish. Ladybridge added their second goal from the penalty-spot and were worthy winners of this BBDJFL Section E fixture. Joshua Rotherham was Man of the Match but special mentions go to both James Cadwaladr and Michael Walsh who were outstanding in midfield.
*Beechy Under 8's Storm tasted victory and defeat following their last two Salford and District League games. Away against Boothstown Hornets on 23/4/2022 Storm created a solid display and won the match that included five goals. Jack Sinclair, Kobe Glass and Aiden Thompson who shared the Man of the Match award with Jack Sinclair scored the goals. Then seven days later Beechy were at home to Longford Park Black and with numerous chances on offer could easily have held a healthy half time lead. Longford Park took their chances and eventually won the game while Beechy managed a consolation goal via Scott Ellis-Smith. Storm's Star Player was Kobe Glass.
