Irlam JFC U7 v Beechfield United Storm U7

Beechy Storm showing ring rust having not played a game in a couple of weeks as well as lacking the creative guile of Henry though did enough to win against a very strong Irlam side starting a run against 3 of the top teams in the league.

Began the brighter with Beechfield providing a more incisive and direct passing style in this game than usual with Archie playing in midfield jinking away from the defender and finishing well across the keeper to start off the game- however a defensive error saw Irlam free on the left wing powering a finish past Alfie in goal who had no chance.

With the score level Freddie had broken forward with a ball threaded by Archie taking the role of creator this time with Fred finishing excellently past the keeper. Beechy seemed in control though giving away free kick saw one of the saves of the game with Alfie acrobatically saving the shot keeping Storm ahead.

However again a defensive error with a reluctance to clear lines let Irlam squeeze in and somehow finishing past Alfie at the near post.

As both teams battled throughout with Ralph harrying excellently, Alfie had made a number of clever runs that unfortunately didn’t result in a goal and George stoutly defending it was on the stroke of half time with James taking a corner which swung in scoring his first of the game to take Beechy ahead at the break (as well as his second goal from a corner which he reminded me of!)

Against a very talented Irlam side Beechy struggled to break them down though at the other end Vincent in goal denied Irlam multiple times with smart saves in the second half.

A rare chance came in the way of a freekick with James lofting the ball into the box with Freddie connecting with the outside of his foot to score possibly the goal of the game! Shortly after Ralph was agonisingly close having gone through following good work by Archie on the left though the keeper inspired somehow saved the shot!

Having worked so hard with a number of shots going high, wide and being saved - Archie showed some excellent perseverance and put the game to bed with a fabulous strike from the edge of the box.

A defensive lapse again left a winger going through and with Vincent who had been so solid though in this case was distracted - Irlam clinched their third one minute from time.

Overall - a good performance leading to another win for Storm against one of the strongest teams in the group.

Goals:
2x Archie
2x Freddie
1x James

MOTM:
Archie - led the team well today as captain in midfield, created a goal and scored a brace! Special mention to Vincent who is progressing well since joining the team in goal!
