- U/11's Tornadoes Match Report 3/5/2025
Boothstown U11 Hornets v Beechfield Utd U11 Tornadoes Salford and Districts Junior League
After 2 weekends without a game the Tornadoes were eager to get back to action. We faced a decent Boothstown side, who will be playing in the cup final in 2 weeks. They had already beaten us twice this season, but the matches were closer than the scoreline suggests so we knew we had a chance if at our absolute best.
We were dealt a blow before kick off with some late dropouts including keeper Ty Dobson, so we had a bare 9 players and Reuben McCormick stepped up to take the keepers gloves.
We started well on the front foot with Grayson Evans, Harry Myddelton, Ryan Cordingley and Dawood Fakeeh all looking dangerous playing some good football in the Boothstown half. Both sides traded half chances before Grayson Evans rattled the crossbar with a magnificent effort from the left. It didn't take long however for Grayson to get on the scoresheet when he linked up well with Dawood, to finish low into the bottom right corner to give Beechy the lead. Both sides traded chances in a relatively even first half. Any Boothstown shots that did get through were dealt with well by Reuben McCormick. Just before the break Boothstown we're awarded a penalty for handball, which we could not argue with. This was converted and level the half time score.
The second half started in the same vein. Boothstown probably looked the greater threat but our back four of Alex McGrory, Freya Quinn, Jayden Lowe and Ralph Theaker held firm. We did look a threat on the counter attack throughout however and regained our lead midway through the half. Some good work on the right from Ryan saw him play Dawood through, who played a sublime 1-2 with Grayson before Dawood slotted home. And Beechy led again.
The last 15 minutes saw a flurry of Boothstown chances but we held on well. Their best chance came when Reuben saved an effort low to his right and Dawood followed up to clear off the line. This was a fantastic win for Beechy!
This was probably the strongest opposition we have beaten this season and we had to work really hard to do so, so congratulations to the whole team who put a terrific shift in today.
Player of the Match was close. Reuben, tremendous in goal. Alex, warrior like at the back and played on bravely despite a shoulder injury sustained in our last game and aggravated further today. Grayson, a terror up top who was clinical today and I was impressed with his strength in the tackle all game. But Player of the Match was Dawood Fakeeh who was all over the pitch as usual, scored a goal, got an assist, and did a goal saving goal line clearance.
Well done team, hopefully the start of a winning run to end the season! ⚽️
