- Beechy Ladies Win Friendly Match 5-1
Beechy Ladies were back in action on Sunday 22nd May 2022 when they arranged a friendly match at home with Macclesfield Ladies and thanks to a solid all-round display secured a 5-1 victory.
Macclesfield Ladies kicked-off the game but Beechy quickly enjoyed a greater share of the ball and after winning two successive corners there was a chance on offer for Jess Lawson who volleyed the ball wide of the target. Bethany Hill had to concede a corner when the visitors launched a fast counter-attack but Beechy confidently dealt with the inswinging flag kick. Beechy keeper Megan Kenyon who had a fairly easy ninety minutes made a superb save following another breakaway move from the visitors. Defender Megan Mirfield won the ball when under pressure and moved it on to Amie Barratt who's cleverly disguised pass resulted in Monique Pollard forcing a diving save from the Macclesfield keeper.
Following another corner in the 14th minute Beechy took the lead after Stacy Partridge curled the ball into the area and Alice Mosley got the final touch to send it into the net. As Beechy continued to control the flow of the game the Macclesfield keeper managed to grab the ball at the second attempt after a long range effort from Jess Lawson who's cross a couple of minutes later was volleyed onto the post by Stacy Partridge. After twenty minutes the Macclesfield No16 controlled a mistimed clearance but from the edge of the area hammered the ball over the crossbar then the Macclesfield No15 was off target with a half volley prior to the visitors equalising goal following a header from a corner.
When Beechy made their first match substitutions Julie Ward and Natasha Priestley replaced Shauna Smith and Aimee Armsden. Amie Barratt blasted the ball wide after another pinpoint corner taken by Stacy Partridge then an effort from Becky Topping dipped over the crossbar. In the 37th minute Beechy went 2-1 up when they were awarded a penalty for handball and Becky Topping made no mistake with the resulting spot-kick. Three minutes later Beechy increased their lead when Bethany Hill, Amie Barratt, Natasha Priestley and Jess Lawson combined in a quick passing move and Monique Pollard added an excellent left footed finish. A move between Alice Mosley and Monique Pollard led to a chance for Julie Ward who after timing her run into the area fired the ball wide of the target. (HT 3-1)
Macclesfield Ladies made a bright start in the second half and briefly created a few positive attacking moves but Beechy quickly regained control and after winning the ball outside the area Stacy Partridge curled it over the crossbar. On forty nine minutes Beechy added their fourth goal when the visitors wasted possession in midfield and at the end of a swift attack Natasha Priestley slotted the ball past the stranded Macclesfield keeper. The visitors forced some vital defending from Beechy's back four and twice Megan Mirfield and Alice Mosley made great ball winning tackles while keeper Megan Kenyon produced a couple of easy saves. Beechy made a triple substitution when Shauna Smith, Kirsten Elrick and Aimee Armsden replaced Megan Mirfield, Amie Barratt and Jess Lawson.
A superb move involving Stacy Partridge, Becky Topping and Natasha Priestley nearly produced another goal but the latter fired her effort straight at the keeper. Some terrific play between Julie Ward, Natasha Priestley and Kirsten Elrick was a joy to watch then a similar move between Kirsten, Natasha and Player of the Match Amie Barratt who had quickly returned to the action set-up a chance of a goal for Aimee Armsden. Also back on the pitch was Jess Lawson who completed the scoring when she added the finish to a brilliant move ivolving Natasha Priestley and Stacy Partridge.
