POSTED: November 02 2020 23:32:01 By Keith Long - 8-0 Win For In-Form Beechy Ladies

In the Greater Manchester Womens League the in-form Beechfield United Ladies team secured a fourth successive Division 2 victory to stay top of the table.

At home to Horwich Wrens on Sunday 1st November Beechy who enjoyed an 8-0 victory were a goal ahead inside three minutes. Nicola Campion won the ball off an Horwich defender and neatly set-up Becky Topping who made no mistake with a right footed finish. The Horwich keeper managed to turn the ball onto the post following a a shot on target by Becky and two minutes later a visitors defender denied Nicola an early goal when she cleared the ball off the line. Beechy's stand-in keeper Bethany Hill bravely saved an effort from the visitors No23 who had raced onto a great through ball by the Horwich No10. Slow in finding their normal smooth passing rhythm Beechy didn't threaten to score again until the 24th minute when Shauna Smith, Sophie Addison and Stacy Partridge combined in a neat quick passing move and Nicola Campion hammered the ball past a stranded visitors keeper.

Less than three minutes later Nicola made it 3-0 when her first time effort left the keeper flat footed following great play by Sophie Addison. The Horwich keeper was suddenly the visitors busiest player as Beechy stepped up a gear and Crystal Barker was more involved within the midfield area. Beechy made a trio of substitutions when Sophie Wainwright, Rachel Griffin and Danielle Farrand replaced Aimee Greenwood, Sian Anderson and Rebecca Watkins. The arrival of heavy rain didn't ruin the flow of the game and Horwich Wrens continued to display a good work ethic within their ranks all over the pitch. Clever play from Mia Pemberton on the left wing got her into a useful shooting position but she chose to move the ball onto Stacy Partridge who's swerving effort hit the post. A first time clearance from the Horwich No6 was met by Danielle Farrand who on the volley sent an excellent crossfield pass to Stacy Partridge and Beechy's No8 fired the ball just wide.

Twice great defending from Shauna Smith broke up quick counter-attacks by a fairy young visitors outfit who found themselves trailing 4-0 in the 42nd minute. Another superb pass by Danielle Farrand sent Mia Pemberton off on a diagonal run across the pitch and due to the force of Mia's fierce drive the Horwich keeper could only palm the ball into the net. HT 4-0 The visitors made a positive start in the second half forcing some safety first defending from Rachael Griffin, Danielle Farrand and Shauna Smith before Beechy increased their lead. The ball was moved quickly through the midfield and after finding space near the edge of the area Nicola Campion played it across to Becky Topping and United's No10 added a clinical low accurate finish. Bethany Hill who was virtually a spectator was called into action when she had to deal with a deep curling cross into the area by the Horwich No10. As Beechy enjoyed a greater share of the ball play was situated in the visitors half and after several near misses by Sophie Addison, Nicola Campion and Becky Topping Beechy went 6-0 up.

The ball was worked down the left flank and it was Mia Pemberton's spectacular goal that produced the highlight of the match. Making her Beechy debut was Jodine Beveridge who was soon involved in the fast action and she had only been on the pitch a few minutes when Nicola Campion netted the seventh goal as she completed her hat trick. Sophie Wainwright made several useful runs down the right wing and two pinpoint crosses into the area could easily have led to Beechy's next goal. Rebecca Watkins and Sophie Addison replaced Crystal Barker and Nicola Campion around the 78th minute and four minutes later Horwich Wrens won their first corner of the game. A well judged clearance by Danielle Farrand was met by Becky Topping and she neatly set-up Stacy Partridge to make it 8-0 via a brilliant finish from about 25yards. Aimee Greenwood almost score twice in the last few minutes when Beechy produced another attacking surge.

Beechy's Squad was: Bethany Hill, Sophie Addison, Stacy Partridge, Shauna Smith, Sian Anderson, Aimee Greenwood, Rebecca Watkins, Becky Topping, Crystal Barker, Mia Pemberton, Nicola Campion, Danielle Farrand, Hannah Walker, Jodine Beveridge, Sophie Wainwright, Rachael Griffin.
