- Emphatic Victory as United Hit Twelve
Goals galore were on the menu when Beechfield United A team met Leigh Genesis Reserves at Leigh Sports Village and United cruised to a 12-2 victory.
Beechy who made a few team changes kicked-off the match and both Byron Ward and Bradley Hodges ended a couple of early attacks by the hosts with some assured defending just before United took the lead in the third minute. Keenan Switzer's inch perfect pass sent Callum Davies racing past the Leigh Genesis right back and United's No7 unselfishly squared the ball to Josh Main-Quinn who was left with a simple close range finish. There was a lively opening period to the match and following an accurate long through ball aimed towards Callum Davies Beechy won their first corner after seven minutes. Leigh Genesis mounted a couple of decisive counter-attacks and both the hosts No16 & No9 had chances to equaliser but they blasted the ball well off target. On the quarter-hour mark United led 2-0 after Kane Rowley, Josh Main-Quinn combined through midfield and via his trusted left foot Keenan Switzer fired the ball low past the keeper.
Then three minutes later Beechy went 3-0 up through Callum Davies following another superb move involving Kane Rowley, David McCarthy and Keenan Switzer. Beechy's movement off the ball was the key to their success so far and United enjoyed at least 70% possession as they produced some superb attacking football. Leigh's defence was severely tested as Beechy continued to create chances galore and the hosts keeper somehow managed to save a thunderous drive from Callum Davies. The hosts keeper was stranded when a header by Josh Main-Quinn hit the post then his opposite number Joe Haye dealt with a couple of overhit passes when Leigh Genesis enjoyed a brief attacking spell. On forty minutes United cruised into a 4-0 lead when a great angled pass by Keenan SWitzer opened up the Leigh defence and Callum Davies raced clear unchallenged and easily slotted the ball beyond the keeper.
Leigh Genesis made a bright start to the second half a following a free kick Byron Ward made a vital headed clearance following a corner. A terrific effort from Tom Allcock forced a superb one-handed save from the Leigh Genesis keeper prior to the hosts reducing the arrears. The goal gave the hosts a real boost and when United appeared to relax their grip on the game Joe Haye saved a close range effort from Leigh's busy No7. But Beechy soon regained control and added their fifth goal when David McCarthy who shared the Man of the Match award with Byron Ward started the move with a great forward pass onto Keenan Switzer. United's No10 momentarily lost the ball but he quickly won it back and set-up Josh Main-Quinn who evaded a defenders robust challenge before casually leaving the keeper stranded. Ninety seconds later following some slack defending by United the hosts got their second goal when a curling cross into the area was met by Leigh's No10 and his header flew into the roof of the net.
A few offside decisions ruined some great build-up play right across the pitch before Callum Davies timed his run to perfection and controlling a brilliant pass from substitute Kyle Galbraith made it 6-2 as he completed his hat-trick on the hour mark. Leigh's defence was all at sea again two minutes later when David McCarthy was involved in the move that saw Josh Main-Quinn celebrate his hat-trick after he scored the seventh goal. Zar Jordan replaced Josh Egan and Ben Walker took over from Nathan Bester just before Keenan Switzer ended a mazy run into the area with a powerful right footed finish for goal number eight. Keenan was involved again in the 76th minute when his crossfield pass between two defenders resulted in Callum Davies hammering the ball into the net to give United a massive 9-2 lead. The goals continued to flow and Beechy hit double figures after eighty one minutes when via his fifth goal of the game Callum Davies finished of another brilliant quick passing move. Keenan Switzer completed his hat-trick with the eleventh goal and Bradley Hodges ended the scoring in the 87th minute.
