- Junior Section Match Details 2nd/3rd Nov 2024
Sharing the Highlights in the Junior Section on Saturday 2nd November 2024 were Beechy Under 12's Tornadoes and Under 17's Hurricanes.
*Continuing their impressive unbeaten run in the Salford and Districts League Beechy Under 12's TORNADOES (9v9) were in action at home against Skills United. Taking advantage of the late arrival of their opponents the Tornadoes started on the front foot and dominating possession Beechy created plenty of chances. Caught offside a few times the Tornadoes kept going and took the lead via Kian Murphy who scored with a spot-kick after winning the penalty. Archie Charles who was introduced into the action was a constant threat to the visitors and midway through the first half Archie put Beechy 2-0 up. Max Blood added the Tornadoes third goal a much needed reward after Max had a few efforts ruled out for offside then Archie headed home Beechy's fourth goal before Max netted goal number five just before half time. The Tornadoes continued to control this Division 1 encounter in the second half as they limited Skills United to very few chances that was down to some superb defending from both Blake Salmon and Tyler Ackernley. Beechy kept playing good football and with a brilliant long range strike Zack MacKinnon made it 6-0 then Man of the Match Kian Murphy after a nice run and cool finish scored the seventh goal when he completed the scoring. This was the Tornadoes seventh successive Division 1 victory.
*At Littleton Road the Under 17's HURRICANES made a confident start in the home game with unbeaten Section B leaders Cherrybrook Celtic. The visitors took the lead when they were awarded a penalty then Cherrybrook added a second goal but Beechy remained composed and fighting back reduced the arrears when Kane Wood scored from the penalty-spot and though the first half produced lots more action there were no more goals. The game really came to life in the second forty five minutes and the Hurricanes were soon rewarded via Karo Ibodje who was on target with Beechy's equaliser and persistent pressure on Cherrybrook paid off again when Karo edged the Hurricanes 3-2 ahead. Credit to Cherrybrook who fought back and managed to get back level and though the game remained in the balance Beechy created the better chances. With fifteen minutes to go Cherrybrook took a 4-3 lead but once again Beechy remained calm and putting the pressure back on their opponents forced an own goal from a Cherrybrook defender. Added pressure from Beechy was rewarded when Luke Kennedy with a screamer from the edge of the box put the Hurricanes 5-4 up with three minutes remaining. Man of the Match Karo Ibodje completed his hat-trick and the scoring to round off an action packed second half. *Result Hurricanes 6 v Cherrybrook 4.
*The Under 16's HURRICANES had a friendly match with Astley and Tyldesley Falcons and due to several squad members unavailable Beechy had only eleven players. The match ended 3-3 after the Hurricanes had dominated the first half but as tiredness crept in Astley and Tyldesley forced their way back into the game in the second half. On target for Beechy were Rafael Djacy, Henry Errington and JJ Lowery. The Hurricanes other players were Max, Zach D, Lucca, Mihail, Rudolf, Owen (C) Josh, Rafa.
*At home on Sunday against Manchester Corinthians the Under 16's THUNDER were without regular goalkeeper Oliver Dalton-Bunker so Matty Cox took on the goalies role. First chance in this Division 3 game went to Thunder when Josh whipped in a dangerous free kick and an effort by Djacy was just off target. Manchester Corinthians took the lead midway through the first half and Thunder made a couple of substitutions before they equalised. Out of nothing Rafael Djacy won possession and fired a great strike that saw the ball fly into the net for 1-1. There were more chances for Beechy as they looked to control this match but the visitors regained the lead following a great free kick and strong header. After the break Djacy went close to making it 2-2 but his powerful strike saw the ball skim the top of the crossbar. Another quality free kick taken by Josh set-up another chance for Djacy but the Corinthians keeper made a great save. Thunder kept attacking until the final whistle and won a corner in the dying seconds and had a chance to force a late equaliser. Man of the Match Matty Cox.
*Oscar Mather was the Under 15's TORNADOES goal scoring hero when he scored both goals for Beechy in their 2-1 away win over Kingsway Athletic. The three points earned saw the Tornadoes move up to third place in the Salford and Districts Junior League Division 2 table.
*In the Manchester Youth Super League the Under 11's LIGHTNING (9v9) faced the best team in their Division. Up against BPO Aces a hard fought Beechy outfit just fell short in all departments and found themselves four goals down at half time. Determined to improve in the second half Lightning were rewarded with a great goal scored by Henry Dunne who fired the ball into the net from a tight angle. Beechy had chances to score more goals while against the run of play BPO Aces added to their tally with a couple of goals. Beechy Manager James Fillingham said the big positive from the game was his players attitude which made him very proud. Man of the Match was Kayson Gregg who produced a superstars performance.
*Playing their third and final game in the Challenge Tournament against Monton Sports Juniors were Beechy Under 10's STORM who needed a win to secure top spot in the table and go through to the quarter-finals. Storm made a good start in the tie but lacked the cutting edge until unlikely goalscorer gave Beechy the lead. Harry Chambers who only scores worldie's won the ball outside the penalty area and rifled it into the top corner of the net then a neat and tidy finish by Bobby Lowe from inside the box gave Storm a two goal lead at the break. Against their opponents Beechy knew the next goal was important and pushing hard for it forced some fine Monton defending. The nerves were settled when Bobby Lowe scored Storm's third goal then Kade Doyle added number four before Man of the Match Bobby got his hat-trick and via a thunderbolt strike from outside the box Harry Heathcote-Clare completed the scoring.
*Away at Red Star Lionesses in the Challenge Tournament Beechy Under 9's THUNDER faced a 1pm kick-off on an Astroturf Pitch bigger than the recommended size for the age group. The hosts took the lead but Beechy bounced back and Chase Sixsmith had a couple of chances to equalise then a great pass from George Kelly set-up Archie Heighway who fired the ball just over the crossbar. Red Star's keeper saved an effort by Harrison Spencer then George Kelly saw his thunderous strike rattle the crossbar. Grayson Owen, Tiffany Kandemri and Ezra Ramage were involved in more great build-up play and Thunder's keeper Oscar Spencer made a couple of smart saves when Red Star threatened to score again. As the action continued to switch rapidly from end to end in the second half Red Star added two more goals before Chase Sixsmith was on target when he reduced the arrears. The hosts got a fourth goal during the closing minutes but overall Thunder played the much better football. Archie Heighway was voted Beechy's Best Player.
*There was a tough day in the Salford and Districts Junior League for the Under 9's STORM on Saturday morning when they met a very strong Winton Wanderers Blazers in the Challenge Tournament. Beechy who were four goals down at half time managed to stem the tide after the break thanks to the leagues power play rule. The referee gave Winton a helping hand towards their victory when he awarded them a soft penalty in the last seconds of the game.
