Old Trafford Juniors v Beechfield United Storm U8 (Challenge Tournament)*

Biggest test for Storm U8s against a very strong old Trafford - tipped as a blockbuster game brought out Manchester City and Liverpool scouts (as well as a gaggle of geese).

James and Fred started in defence with Imad and Henry manning the wings - In the absence of Alfie, Vincent got set to complete a full forty minutes in goal. Imad & Caleb were set to share the captaincy today.

On the tight and soft pitch both teams traded blows - first from OT striking though well covered by Vincent. Fred, clearly irked by the attempt at his school classmate hit back with a break and striking hitting the post. OT hit back with chances high and low though Vincent produced two brilliant saves to keep the game in deadlock.

With the rotations Caleb took the field raring to go and made an immediate impact - showing he was the sharpest picking up a stray ball and finishing perfectly into the bottom right. Imad who had a real influence on this game though had missed the final ball had it through Caleb who pinged the ball from the right to release him who finished acutely across goal.

Shortly after Beechy now purring; Fred moved the ball to Imad who found himself on the left, pushed through to release Caleb who finished well. To complete an impactful first half Caleb winning the ball to the right of the goal and hitting it into the corner.

They were close to another as James was released, took aim, and smacked the ball from distance smashing off the cross bar as well as a distance shot from Henry clipping the right post!

Focusing on the defensive side; Henry chasing back with a couple of critical challenges as well as clearing the ball off the goal line, James putting his body on the line in true Jimmy fashion with George who was asked to complete a selfless role today; out paced and out muscled OT on /all occasions in the first half.

With the second half underway Beechy matched the intensity playing some great football though it was a slip from James letting OT in & finished past Vincent who was caught in two minds. Great to see both Vince and Fred picking their team mate up to re galvanise the performance

The team looked to Henry who was creative throughout - he tested the keeper with a shot from distance that resulted in a fantastic save. He then went on a trademark run, crossing in, finding Imad who had his first shot saved, making no mistake and burying the rebound.

As the game swung - George who had been totemic was eventually beaten to the ball and OT got another from distance.

Beechy again could have had more this half - a number of brilliant corners from James finding Imad in the box who couldn’t quite finish as well as a cross through finding Caleb who rattled the post. Fred also ran through following some one touch passes from Henry and Imad, decided to round the goal keeper and some excellent OT defending saw the ball somehow not find its way in!

Really strong performance with some excellent passing moves throughout!

Moments of the Match:
Throughout we saw Beechy play some fantastic one / no touch passing football to show how far the team have come!

MOTM:
Voted by the players & showing it was a difficult decision as we ended up with three - *Caleb* for an unbelievable first half performance scoring three goals, *George* who did his role fantastically as the sweeper and *Vincent* who similarly was imperious in this first half in the tight moments where it could’ve gone either way.

This being said every lad played really well today so could’ve gone to any of them!
