BUFC Beechfield Utd U11 Tornadoes v Salford Utd U11 Devils

We hosted a Salford side today who edged past us in an exciting league game a few weeks ago so another close match was expected in today's cup tie.

Unfortunately the first half did not turn out to be close. Salford scored two early goals after Beechy had failed opportunities to clear. We struggled to create much all half except a couple of corners and a Grayson Evans effort shot just wide of the left hand post. Beechy were well below their best and Salford scored two more before half time to go into the break ahead. A half to forget for the Tornadoes.

After a very stern talking to at half time, and a formation change, the side knew they had to improve after the break. We set the team the target to win the 2nd half and see where that got us. Beechy looked like a different team after the break and started to play some nice football in the opposition half. We started creating multiple chances, mainly coming from the left side with Harry Myddleton driving Beechy forward. Harry, Grayson and Dawood Fakeeh all had chances to score but the ball would not go in. Salford looked dangerous on the break and Ty Dobson saved well on a couple of occasions to keep the score at four. Aidan Thompson then hit a sweet shot which crashed off the left post, so unlucky not to score. It looked like one of those days for us but we continued to attack 2nd half and eventually we got the goal our 2nd half performance deserved when a Dawood Fakeeh shot was fumbled by the Salford keeper to reduced the arrears. Beechy continued to drive forward. Grayson was fouled on the edge of the box then stepped up himself to take the free kick which he superbly struck into the top left hand corner for our second goal. Beechy continued to press but ultimately we scored our goals too late in the half to affect the result. Despite the loss this was a much improved 2nd half performance which we need to take forward to our next match.

Player of the Match today was Aidan Thompson. He was the only player to come out of the first half horror show with any credit, and improved further 2nd half when moved up to a midfield role. He was unfortunate not to get on the score sheet with a great strike off the post.
