- Junior Section Match Details 11th/12th Oct 2023
Playing their first ever game on Saturday 11th November 2023 in the Salford and Districts League were Beechfield United's new mini-soccer team the Under 10's Lightning.
*The Under 10's LIGHTNING were away to Winton Wolverines in the Green Group and in a very close first half scored goals by Kayson Gregg and Austin Fillingham to share four goals at half time. The second half could have gone either way as both teams created lots of chances but it was Winton who made their chances count and eventually the hosts won the game. After the game Beechy Team Manager James Fillingham said he was very proud of all the players who gave a good account of themselves.
*There was a tough day for Beechy Under 10's TORNADOES in their away game against a very good Baguley Athletic team. The Tornadoes who lost this cup tie to the best team in their Section faced a challenging task with just six players and no regular goalkeeper against the oppositions seven players. In a gutsy first half keeper Reuben McCormick made some decent saves when Beechy faced heavy pressure as the hosts took advantage of having the extra player. Alex McGrory impressed in an unfamiliar defensive role with some well timed tackles while Anika Wojciak was her usual classy self in midfield and she scored the Tornadoes consolation goal.
In the second half Player of the Match Anika made several great saves in a ten minute cameo appearance as keeper and Ryan Cordingley who worked his socks off was unlucky with a couple of forays forward. Jayden Lowe played in every position throughout the game including goalkeeper and was particulary threatening from midfield and Sammy Omoregie who also played in an unfamiliar defensive role adapted well to the task. Despite a heavy defeat the sweat pouring off the Beechy players faces proved they had given everything. With the addition of new player Ralph and hopefully a full squad available the Tornadoes will be ready for their next game against Deans Youth Sports.
*To guarantee their Challenge Cup game against Winton Wanderers went ahead the Under 11's TORNADOES booked a Astroturf Pitch at Leigh Sports Village. On a perfect morning for football the Tornadoes started slow with some sloppy play and it was a case of attack versus defence in the opening fifteen minutes. Unable to get out of their own half Beechy made silly mistakes which put them under pressure. There were no goals after the twenty minute mark so the Tornadoes made a couple of changes in an effort to give them a bit more strength in attack. The tie was more evenly balanced until Beechy conceded another free kick on the edge of the area and from the dead ball situation Winton took the lead which they held at half time. In the second half the Tornadoes created more chances but let themselves down by still making silly mistakes. Continuing to fight hard the Tornadoes were always in the game but they couldn't find an equalising goal and lost the tie 1-0. Beechy's Man of the Match was Kian Murphy who did great work down the left flank while goalkeeper Harvey Pugh did really well and was very brave and solid once again.
*At St James School in Farnworth Beechy Under 9's STORM played Salford Storm Lightning in a Red Group fixture and Storm hadn't met their opponents previously this season so the Beechy Boys were looking foward to the game. Making good accurate passes Beechy were clinical in the first ten minutes and deservedly held a two goal lead. Lightning came into the game and starting to show their quality reduced the arrears then equalised just before half time. Beechy's play slowed down slightly in the second half and the teams normal fluent passing wasn't flowing like it usually does. Following a fine save from keeper George Savage Beechy found themselves a goal down when following a rebound the ball was tapped into the net from close range. But soon after Beechy equalised via an own goal and the game ended with the teams sharing six goals. Bobby Lowe and Seth Barber scored Beechy's other goals and following a superb performance George Savage who made some great saves was voted Man of the Match.
*The Under 8's Red Group fixture between Beechy THUNDER and Urmston Meadowside was switched to Salford Sports Village. Thunder took some time to adjust playing on a smaller 5v5 pitch and found themselves two goals down but fought back to stay in the game with some great defending from Grayson Owen in the process. When Beechy clicked into gear Chase Sixsmith brought Thunder back level with two strikes into the corner of the net. Chances continually were on offer and both Antonio Embalo and Harrison Spencer narrowly missed the target before Harry Wright gave Beechy the lead with a side-footed finish. Urmston Meadowside grabbed an equaliser shortly before half time and the second half began with Oscar Spencer going on some mazy runs and it was Oscar who deservedly put Thunder back in front. Two long range free kicks put Urmston back in command of the game and despite missing a couple of players the Beechy Boys fought bravely until the end. Thunder were denied an equalising goal scored by Grayson Owen when the referee disallowed it for a foul in the bulid up. Man of the Match was Chase Sixsmith for his two goals and his display as goalkeeper in the second half.
*On Sunday in the 2nd Round of the Challenge Cup the Under 12's THUNDER faced an away game against Manchester Maccabi. During a fairly even start to the tie there were a couple of chances for both teams before Maccabi opened the scoring when a shot skidded off the quick pitch. Thunder gradually got a foothold in the game and a superb long range effort by Samuel Sulmataj rattled the crossbar and when Maccabi scored again it looked to be one of those days. Beechy completely dominated the second half but a fully deserved goal was missing until Ollie Sixsmith who whipped in some fantastic corners delivered one to perfection and Samuel Sulmataj was in the right place to slot the ball into the net. Continuing to press for an equaliser Thunder created numerous chances and sacrificing a defender for an extra attacker kept their opponents pinned back. In the dying seconds Beechy got the ball into the area and with virtually with the last kick of the game Theo McNulty bundled the ball home to make it 2-2. The teams were then involved in a penalty kick decider and going first was Ajab Fakeeh who scored with his spot kick, then Maccabi netted with their first effort but Jacob McGoff put his penalty to the keepers left for 2-1. Maccabi again levelled from their next kick before Ollie Sixsmith hammered home to make it 3-2 and though Maccabi equalised again Mohammed Edris cooly slotted into the net for 4-3. Thunder's stand-in keeper Martin Pankov produced a superb save to put Beechy within touching distance and it was Maddox Taylor who's penalty beat the Maccabi keeper who got a hand to the ball to earn Thunder a 5-3 shoot-out win and a place in the next round of the competition.
*In the Bolton Bury and District League the Under 16's HURRICANES were involved in competitive Section C home game with Prestwich Marauders. Alfie Gridlestone gave Beechy the lead following a free kick but Marauders responded with and equalising goal. The visitors added two more goals but Brandon Cini fired the Hurricanes back into the game before Prestwich scored again just before half time. Making a bright start in the second half the Hurricanes dominated possession and after taking full advantage of a mistake by the Marauders keeper Kane Wood made it 4-3. The Hurricanes continued to put pressure on their opponents but Prestwich managed to hold onto their lead and win the game following some solid defending.
