- Impressive Performance From Beechy Ladies
On Sunday 12th November 2017 Beechy Ladies kicked-off their away game against Bolton Wanderers facing a bright winter sun in there faces plus their was a slight slope on the pitch which Wanderers were hoping to use to their advantage. Beechy were soon on the attack and a shot by Natasha Herity was saved by the Wanderers keeper but the hosts were quick to reply and a Wanderers forward sent an effort wide of the post in the 9th minute. Then Wanderers nearly opened the scoring three minutes later following a poor goal kick but Elina Parker standing-in for Beechy's normal keeper Rachel Howarth who was unwell made a fine save. Playing a 4-4-2 formation Beechy's defensive quartet was Krystal Haywood, Shauna Smith, Gemma Winterburn and Julie Ward. Operating in midfield were Stacy Partridge and Kim Holt plus Jennifer Mutch and Joanna Szafranska on the wings and Natasha Herity and Becky Topping up front.
As the game progressed Wanderers found it increasingly difficult to get out of their own half as Beechy had a tight grip on the contest with Stacy Partridge and Kim Holt supplying numerous passes to all areas of the pitch and United led 1-0 on twenty two minutes through Becky Topping. Jennifer Mutch who was feeling unwell was replaced by Sophie Wainwright and Beechy continued to keep the pressure on their young opponents winning two successive corners. Joanna Szafranska won possession and managed to get the ball onto Natasha Herity who hammered it first time past the keeper for the second goal. Stacy Partridge had a great chance to increase the lead but she sent the ball over the crossbar. Hannah Susnjara replaced Joanna Szafranska at the start of the second half and she nearly helped herself to a goal.
But within five minutes Beechy added goal number three after some good work from Stacey Partridge and a decisive finish by Natasha Herity. Then Debbie Wright and Sue Howard took over from Becky Topping and Kim Holt who had given 100% and Debbie was soon involved with a couple of decent scoring opportunities. Beechy's 4th and 5th goals came via Sophie Wainwright the first after she angled her run from the right flank and fired the ball past the keeper into the corner of the net then she had a simple finish for 5-0. The only thing that took the gloss of a great team performance was an injury to team captain Gemma Winterburn and after a reshuffle Beechy went to a back three and Wanderers took their chance to score their consolation goal. Player of the Match was Stacy Partridge.
