- U/17's Storm Secure Three Vital Points
Following their 4-2 home win over Hindley Vipers in the Bolton Bury and District League the in-form Under 17's Storm went nine points clear at the top of the Section B table.
*At home Beechy had to work hard throughout the game before they were guaranteed the three points. Storm made a dream start when they took the lead in the 3rd minute via leading goalscorer Evan Hodson-Griffiths though Hindley Vipers soon fought back and Harrison Davies produced three superb headed clearances. A quick counter-attack between Evan and Leo Barrett created a chance for Bradley Oliver who saw his close range effort hit the post. Hindley Vipers continued to create more quick passing football forcing some solid defending from Alfie Jones and Ben Delaney plus a couple of saves by Lewis Wallis. As Beechy searched for a second goal Max Hinchy was involved in some good attacks and Storm looked certain to increase their lead.
A great strike by the visitors No14 rattled the crossbar before Hindley Vipers equalised in the 35th minute with a headed goal following a corner. A few misplaced passes and the habit of conceding far too many needless free kicks gave Storm cause for concern. Lewis Wallis was in action again just before half time when he confidently dealt with an effort on target from the Hindley Juniors No7. (HT1-1) Substitutes Sam Kemp and Christian Idusuyi were introduced at the start of the second half but Beechy were slow in finding their rhythm. At the end of an attack down the left wing a low drive from Hindley's No17 hit the post but luckily for Storm Lewis Wallis was able to deal with the rebound. In the 50th minute following a red card incident Hindley Vipers were reduced to ten players but the visitors continued to cause Beechy a few problems.
On several occasions both Josh Everall and Christian Idusuyi defended superbly and the latter made an important clearance from inside the penalty area. Oliver Lawton and Ben Delaney made vital contributions to Storm's display and substitute Billy Jones got his chance to shine in the 55th minute. The Hindley No18 had a great chance to score but he blasted the ball over the crossbar and a couple of minutes later Beechy regained the lead. Evan Hodson-Griffiths started and finished the move that involved Bradley Oliver and Luka Ottiwell with a decisive close range finish then soon after Evan completed his hat-trick for 3-1. Gradually Storm got a tighter grip on the game and a pass from Max Hinchy sent Sam Kemp on a solo run through midfield and Sam's shot on target forced a fine fingertip save from the visitors keeper. Bradley Oliver netted Beechy's fourth goal then ninety seconds after a counter-attack the Hindley Vipers No19 completed the scoring.
