- Junior Section Match Details 18/11/2023
On Saturday 18th November 2023 Beechfield United Under 8's Thunder were involved in a crazy game of football in their away fixture at Old Trafford Diamonds.
*In this Salford and Districts Junior League Red Group the U/8's THUNDER who were wary of a very talented opposition player found themselves two goals down. But once Beechy grew into the game both Harry Wright and Oscar Spencer put in some strong tackles and chances started to arrive. Chase Sixsmith reduced the arrears then Old Trafford scored a third goal before Oscar Spencer was on target with Beechy's second goal. The second half got off to a bad start for Thunder when they conceded a fourth goal following a free kick and the game got quite tetchy. Antonio Embalo was forced to retire due to an injury after being the victim of two very strong tackles. A bizarre event followed when from a goal kick Harrison Spencer ran the lengthy of the pitch unopposed as the Old Trafford players stopped to listen to instructions from their manager. The hosts keeper saved Harrison's effort but George Kelly followed up to score from the rebound and though chaos ensued afterwards the referee quite rightly awarded the goal putting Beechy back in touch with ten minutes to go. What followed was ridiculous but the most exceptional attacking display even seen from Thunder because everytime Beechy won the ball they scored and George was on target again when he put Thunder in front after netting a rebound when a shot by Harrison hit the crossbar. Jude Bond fired home Thunder's sixth goal before Harrison powered in a free kick and with his fourth goal of the game George completed the scoring. All the while a great display from Grayson Owen kept Old Trafford's star player out of the game completely and it was played out in absolute silence. This was a superb performance from Thunder and anyone could have won Man of the Match but the award went to George Kelly.
*Once again due to their grass pitch being unplayable following more wet weather the Under 9's STORM booked an Astroturf Pitch for their Red Group home game with Winton Hornets. Starting rthe game well Beechy were solid in defence and passing the ball with accuracy took the lead through Alfie Heighway who scored from the edge of the area. Seth Barber added Storm's second goal when positioned out wide found the net via a cross/type shot. Against the run of play Winton got a goal back but Beechy kept the pressure on their opponents right up to half time. Oscar Pugh was unlucky not score with a fantastic long range effort that was saved by the visitors keeper.
The second half was more of the same and when the Beechy Boys were asked to show more quality on the ball they responded with more goals. Bobby Lowe got himself on the scoresheet with four goals and what seemed a one-sided game felt odd when Winton hit back with a few goals. Storm's goalkeeper George Savage made several very good saves in the game that was played in a good spirit plus the level of play was good also. Beechy's Man of the Match was Oscar Pugh for his hard work and decision making while Jacob Foster impressed in defence.
*In their Challenge Cup tie with Old Trafford the Under 13's STORM created a poor and scrappy display in the first half. The message to the players at half time was the same as it's been all season, forget the score, play football and stay calm, don't chase the game. Beechy went 2-0 down within five minutes of the second half but they suddenly found their passing game and dominated the last thirty minutes. Two goals from Ehiremen Ehijie, one from Timothy Badewa and a last kick penalty by keeper Reuben Wardle saw Storm win 4-2. A Man of the Match performance from captain Harry Wallis guaranteed Beechy a place in the last eight of the competition.
*The Under 10's STORM were away at Old Trafford Juniors for their third game in the top group and after a few tough games previous Beechy stepped up a gear and showed they belong at this level. The first ten minutes of the game were end to end and both goalies were on top form keeping the score level until Old Trafford took the lead via a great strike. Beechy then raised their game and dominated the remainder of the first half and the pressure they created eventually produced rewards with an equalising goal. A great passing move ended with a cross into the area and though his first effort was saved Kobe Glass netted the rebound. Storm continued to push hard for more goals and when the ball broke to Max Schofield he beat two Old Trafford players before slotting the ball into the bottom corner of the net to give Beechy the lead.
In the second half it was again end to end and though Storm were creating the far better chances against the run of play Old Trafford equalised. In true Beechy fashion they got themselves back in front with what Team Manager Matt Wharton described as the best goal he has seen at this level. Another excellent passing move developed and the ball was with Jack Sinclair who on the rght wing easily went past his marker before sending a sublime cross to the back post and rising like a salmon was Kobe Glass who headed the ball home. In search of more goals Storm added number four when Scott Ellis-Smith won the ball in midfield before moving it onto Jack Sinclair who in a one-on-one with the keeper drilled the ball low into the bottom corner of the net. The last five minutes of the games got a bit frantic and Beechy gave away a soft penalty but Jayden Royle produced a spectacular save following the spot kick. This was a top quality game and a real advert for grassroots football.
*Beechy Under 10's TORNADOES entered their Challenge Tournament away game in good spirits welcoming new players Ralph and Oscar into the squad. Beechy made a slow start in the tie and opponents Deans Youth and Sports took the lead but gradually showing a vast improvement as the first half went on the Tornadoes equalised via a fine strike by Jayden Lowe. The second half started in the way the first had ended with the Tornadoes on top and an effort from Alex McGrory tested the Deans keeper. Unfortunately for Beechy the hosts regained the lead after a good spell of Tornadoes pressure and this gave Deans a boost while having the opposite effect on Beechy who conceded three more goals in a crazy five minute spell. Despite being four goals in arrears the Tornadoes had their chances with one valid effort by Man of Match Jayden Lowe saved by the keeper in a one-on-one. The Tornadoes must learn from this defeat and not panic when they go behind in a game.
*After their league game was cancelled the U12's THUNDER arranged an 11-a-side Friendly Match against Salford Eagles and Beechy celebrated a fully deserved 6-2 victory. On a big pitch the Beechy Boys and Girl players were fantastic and Thunder took the lead through Mohammed Edris who finished a nice move firing the ball low into the bottom corner of the net. Shortly after Beechy won a free kick and from about 25yards Ollie Sixsmith stepped up and executed a great finish for 2-0. Salford Eagles reduced the arrears but once again from another free kick Ollie Sixsmith produced the same outcome and Thunder went 3-1 up. Into the second half and Beechy picked up from where they left off and after being fouled in the area via a challenge from behind Jacob McGoff scored Thunder's fourth goal from the resulting penalty. The Eagles were awarded a soft penalty and Beechy keeper Leon Heathcote-Clare was very unlucky in his attempt to deny Thunder's opponents their second goal following the spot-kick. Jacob McGoff netted his second goal of the game when he bundled the ball home during a penalty box scramble for 5-2 then with a hard drilled shot Jacob scored Thunder's sixth goal to complete his hat-trick and the scoring.
*Playing away at Cheadle and Gatley in the 1st Round of the Plate Competition the Under 12's TORNADOES met a team from a higher Division in the Salford and Districts League. The first fifteen minutes of the tie were competitive with both sides battling to get a foothold in the game. Unfortunately for Beechy heads dropped after their opponents scored the first goal and taking full advantage Cheadle and Gatley ran out convincing winners.
*Following three successive defeats in the Salford and Districts League the Under 14's TORNADOES re-discovered the winning formula with a 3-2 away victory over top of Division 2 team Wythenshawe Celtic. On target for Beechy with their match winning goals were Finn Browne who netted a brace and Joshua Beddows.
*On an Astroturf Pitch the Under 16's HURRICANES lost ther Bolton Bury and District League Section C game with Salford Juniors 3-2 and the scoreline suggests a tight contest when it wasn't. From the start Beechy who gave their opponents far too much respect and time on the ball found themselves 3-0 down at half time. After the break the Hurricanes started to mark the Salford players much tighter as they asserted their own presence on the game. The result was two goals from Alfie Gridlestone both via shots from outside the area but unfortunately it was all too late. In total the Hurricanes had no less than nine clear cut chances that weren't taken. Man of the Match was Mason Gowenlock for a simple yet effective game.
