- Victory Boost For Saturday Morning Seniors
After five successive defeats in the Manchester Saturday Morning Football League Beechfield United Saturday Morning Senior Team finally re-discovered the winning formula thanks to a 4-1 victory. United travelled to play Brushes Rangers Spartak on the 18th November and made the best possible start to this Division One fixture. Beechy went 1-0 up after just three minutes when following a free kick the ball was played across the pitch and eventually onto Scott Foulds who delivered an accurate low cross that was met by Max Leonard and he produced a clinical finish. The home side equalised in the 35th minute after Beechy were guilty of some poor defending and when the ball broke free a Brushes forward placed it wide of United keeper Dan Lee for 1-1.
United regained the lead on forty eight minutes when a corner led to Kyle Walton firmly heading the ball across the keeper and into the net. As they continued to create some top-quality soccer Beechy always looked likely to add further goals and United were rewarded with a third goal on eighty minutes. During a great passage of play Matthew Edwards split open the Brushes defence with a brilliant pass and after finding himself one-on-one with the keeper Joe Poyser coolly rolled the ball into the empty net. In the last minute of normal time Wes Pierce was brought down in the area winning United a clear-cut penalty and Max Leonard easily scored from the resulting spot-kick to complete the scoring. Scott Foulds and Wes Pierce shared the Man of the Match Award.
