On Saturday 13th November 2021 Beechfield United 1st Team ended up on the wrong end of a 5-3 score line when they lost at home to Manchester Gregorians.
Guilty of some erratic defending Beechy found themselves trailing 3-0 at half but thanks to a brilliant second half recovery United fought back to make it 3-3 but Beechy conceded two more goals in the final seven minutes. The visitors took the lead in the 14th minute and keeping United under pressure forced some valiant defending from Tom Allcock, Bradley Hodges, Kyle Galbraith and Deren Saunders. Beechy produced some brief periods of top-class soccer and chances for Callum Davies, Zar Jordan and Leighton Egan deserved a better finish. Manchester Gregorians No9 who looked offside put the visitors 2-0 up then Gregorians No8 scored his teams third goal via a close range finish.
As the second half got underway Beechy forced Gregorians to rely heavily on their back four and on fifty one minutes United reduced the arrears. Bradley hodges started a move down the right wing and Zar Jordan delivered a pinpoint low cross into the area for Callum Davies who volleyed the ball past the keeper. In a more open game now Beechy upped the tempo and the visitors faced constant pressure as United continued to create some great chances. Zar Jordan was clearly fouled in the area and the refree immediately awarded United a penalty and from the resulting spot-kick Callum Davies confidently beat the keeper for 3-2. United keeper Gareth Ravenscroft made a fine reaction save with his feet following a lightning Gregorians attack just before Beechy's third goal in the 64th minute.
After winning the ball with a superb tackle Keenan Switzer set-up Callum Davies who's accurate low finish completed his hat-trick. A handful of spectators were treated to a feast of football as United continued to serve up some dynamic attacking play. Gregorians who had several quality players somehow survived more United pressure and after another acrobatic save from Gareth Ravenscroft the visitors took a 4-3 lead after eighty three minutes. During a frantic ending to the game Beechy worked hard in a effort to force at least a draw but Gregorians No9 took advantage of poor United defending to complete the scoring and guarantee the visitors the three points.
