- Top-Notch Display Earns Beechy Ladies 7-1 Win
Conditions at Salford Sports Village were perfect for football when Beechfield United Ladies kicked-off their home game on Sunday 19th November with Bury Ladies. Sixteen players were available for this fixture and Beechy started as favourites having previously beaten their opponents earlier in the season and they were victorious again thanks to a 7-1 win. In the first minute Kim Holt neatly set-up Sophie Wainwright for an attempt to open the scoring then Natasha Herity had a chance of a goal following great play by Joanna Szafranska. The Bury Ladies keeper was constantly involved as Beechy dominated possession and she produced a fine save to keep out an effort from Stacy Partridge. Beechy took the lead after five minutes via Player of the Match Natasha Herity who's cross-cum-shot deceived the Bury keeper the ball hitting the inside of the post before spinning into the net. The visitors created a couple of useful counter-attacks forcing some vital defending from Elina Parker and Julie Ward.
Continuing to play with real confidence Beechy kept the pressure on their opponents forcing the Bury Keeper to become the busiest player on the pitch. Elina Parker supplied the initial forward pass to Stacy Partridge and Beechy's central midfield player displayed a brilliant piece of skill before hammering a shot on target the ball hitting the crossbar and then keeper before bouncing into the net. The Bury Ladies keeper was soon in action again when she somehow diverted the ball for a corner following a powerful effort by Natasha Herity. A free kick to the visitors led to a decent chance for the Bury No8 but Elina Parker rescued the situation with a superb ball winning tackle. As they played with real fluency Beechy's free-flowing football was a joy to watch and a great move between Kim Holt and Stacy Partridge won United a corner. At the end of another accurate passing move the Bury keeper half stopped Natasha Herity's shot on target but Becky Topping easily netted the rebound for 3-0.
Bury Ladies then made a couple of substitutions and briefly the visitors threatened to unsettle United's well organised back four of Krystal Haywood, Gemma Winterburn, Elina Parker and Julie Ward. Beechy keeper Rachael Howarth who so far had virtually been a spectator was suddenly involved and on one occasion had to deal with a free kick awarded to the visitors. Stacy Partridge made it 4-0 when she was quicker than the bury keeper in getting to the ball first and turned it into the net following a low cross into the area by Natasha Herity. Julie Ward, Elina Parker and Kim Holt were all involved in another top-class quick passing move but the latter fired the ball over the crossbar. Several offside decisions ruined more attractive play from Beechy Ladies who outplayed their much younger opponents. But at the end of another rare counter-attack by Bury Ladies their No8 had a chance of a goal though somehow she side footed the ball wide of the target. Just before the break Kim Holt and Sophie Wainwright got into ideal shooting positions but the perfect finish was missing.
Continuing to enjoy a greater share of the ball Beechy opened the second half producing more stylish soccer and were rewarded with goal number five when Kim Holt and Natasha Herity combined again and Becky Topping left a defender and the keeper flat-footed as she slotted the ball into the empty net. Bury Ladies continued to display total commitment and their No5 managed to clear the ball to safety following a superb move this time involving Krystal Hayward, Becky Topping and Sophie Wainwright. But Beechy didn't have much longer to wait for their sixth goal after a quick exchange of passes between Sophie Wainwright and Natasha Herity who added a superb finish. Hazel Tucker replaced Joanna Szafranska and the Beechy substitute was involved in the attack that saw Sophie Wainwright's powerful strike force an acrobatic save from the Bury Keeper. In the next minute at the end of a swift counter-attack the Bury Ladies No7 should have scored but her miss-hit attempt flew high over the crossbar.
Beechy made two substitutions this time Sue Howard was introduced in place of Kim Holt and Sophie Wainwright was replaced by Becky McDonald. After a brief lull in the game Beechy gradually found a better rhythm and a clever pass by Sue Howard set-up Hazel Tucker who's effort was off target then Natasha Herity suffered the same fate two minutes later. The visitors consolation goal arrived due to some slack defending from Beechy and the Bury No9 hit the ball low into the net despite a brave effort by Beechy keeper Rachael Howarth to try and keep a clean sheet. Being more attack-minded Bury Ladies forced some solid defending from Krystal Hayward, Gemma Winterburn, Elina Parker and Julie Ward. Another well disguised pass from Sue Howard created a good chance for substitute Debbie Wright but the Bury keeper mad a brave and confident save. Minutes later Stacy Partridge via some superb footwork supplied the perfectly weighted through ball and Debbie Wright got her deserved goal when the scored the seventh goal.
