- Valid 2-2 Draw For Beechy Ladies Team
*At home to Hyde United Womens Team on Sunday 21st November Beechy Ladies created a solid all-round performance but after leading 2-0 had to settle for a 2-2 draw.
Beechy kicked off this Division 0ne fixture and were soon on the attack and a pass from Stacy Partridge resulted in Hannah Walker forcing a great one handed save from the visitors keeper. Hyde United built a couple of attacks through the midfield forcing some excellent safety first defending from both Shauna Smith and Julie Ward. Working hard to win the midfield battle were Ashleigh Morris, Stacy Partridge, Becky Topping and Amie Barratt as Beechy slowly created several decent chances. The visitors who had a young team on view produced a few promising moves themselves prior to Beechy taking the lead in the 14th minute when a shot by Becky Topping hit the post but Hannah Walker was well positioned to fire home the rebound via a decisive finish.
An instant attacking response from the visitors who briefly enjoyed more of the ball was confidently dealt with by Beechy's back four Sophie Addison, Julie Ward, Shauna Smith and Monique Pollard. A quick counter-attack involving Sophie Addison and Aimee Greenwood won Beechy a corner and following the flag kick a header from Ashleigh Morris was cleared off the line by the visitors No2. Good link-up play between Amie Barratt and Sophie Addison set-up a chance for Hannah Walker who's first time effort just missed the target. Beechy went 2-0 up after they won a free kick taken by Stacy Partridge who lobbed the ball into the area and Becky Topping made goalscoring look easy as she slotted it low past the keeper.
The visitors No11 and No16 combined on several occasions when Hyde United created more fast approach play but once again Sophie, Julie, Shauna and Monique defended superbly. During a period of scappy play Hyde were awarded a penalty for handball and despite a brave effort from Beechy keeper Bethany Hill the visitors No10 scored with the resulting spot-kick to reduce the arrears. Beechy who came close to a third goal in the latter stages of the first half were definately good value for their lead at the half time break. Team changes at the start of the second half by Beechy saw Emily Walmsley and Becky Gregory replace Aimee Greenwood and Ashleigh Morris.
During a strong attacking surge down both wings from the visitors Sophie Addison and Monique Pollard displayed their abilty to defend under pressure when they produced some superb ball winning tackles. Showing more aggression early in the second period Beechy made two more substitutions on the 58th minute mark when Hannah Walker and Julie Ward were replaced by Sian Anderson and Aimee Armsden. Then Stacy Partridge took on the role of goalkeeper allowing Bethany Hill to move into an outfield position. Hyde United's No11 looked certain to score when inside the area but Emily Walmsley superbly blocked the ball with a heroic piece of brave defending. As per the roll-on-roll-off substitution rule Aimee Greenwood took over from Becky Topping prior to Stacy Partridge dealing with a long range effort from the Hyde United No10.
A free kick taken by Amie Barratt just missed the target as Beechy continually relied on the counter-attack and Aimee Armsden who was sometimes a lone figure up front produced a lot of unselfish off the ball running. Sophie Addison was replaced by Jessica Jones who immediately adapted to the pace of the game and made several vital tackles and interceptions. Maintaining a hard working attitude Beechy produced more world class defending until the visitors No21 made it 2-2 with a spectacular strike from outside the area. Sophie Addison was named Player of the Match.
