- U/8's Storm Match Report 25/11/2023
BUFC U/8's Storm who returned to football action after a few weeks with no games in the SDJFL were away to Parkwyddn Phoenix at Patricroft Rec.
With goalkeeper Rocky and centre forward Charlie not available, STORM had to rejig the positions. Young Alfie was quick to step up and volunteer to go in net. Parkwyddn made there presence known and set the tone from the off with high press, creating a lot of chances and resulting in Storm conceding 2 goals in the first 10 minutes. Despite the frosty weather, it didn’t take Storm long to warm up and get back into the game. Usually letting his feet do the work, Alfie certainly found his hands and defended his goal, saving several shots and quickly launching the ball from his hands out to Jacob, who straight away knows how to dribble and juke the defence and take on down the wing. Jude took advantage of this too and paced down the right wing dribbling the ball passed the Parkwyddn defence, whipping balls into the box, which saw Calvin in perfect position to grab Storm's first and second, getting the equaliser and bringing it back 2-2. Hot on his heels - Midfielder Sonny was attacking Parkwyddn from the off again, winning the ball back and running at the defence with pace and he got his first slotting home storm and making it 2-3 Storm just before the ref blew for half-time.
First half started very fast paced, so the second naturally settled into its pace for both sides. Needless to say Storm still looked like the favourites, Creating more chances for Jacob cutting in from the wing and 1 or 3 shots on goal and smashing the side netting. Sonny was at it again, taking the ball from the centre circle feeding Calvin the through, the ref noticed a knock and Sonny claimed the free kick, dipped it from outside the box and placed it past the keeper into the bottom corner. 2-4. Corey come off the bench and made a several big tackles and making Parkwyddn’s attack situation very awkward after 5 or 6 corners in a row. Well into the second half it was obvious Parkwyddn’s rotation gave them the extra fresh legs to attack Storm’s defence harder. Storm gave everything but in the end even though Alfie was our saviour goalkeeper and amazing on the day, unfortunately he couldn’t defend every shot and Parkwyddn got 2 goals back to finish 4-5. Storm our still searching for their first win in the league, the coaches and parents who watch us week in week out would agree that we are always only one game away from it. Today was more about the way the boys played having fun as a team with confidence, like they do every week during training on a Tuesday night. Man of the Match had to be given to Alfie covering for Rocky in net. Well done.
