- Stunning 1st Team Display Earns 2-2 Draw
Continuing their excellent start to the season Beechy's 1st Team produced another stunning performance to earn themselves a 2-2 with Dukinfield Town.
Forced to change last weeks winning team United Manager Mark McWilliams was totally delighted with his players wholehearted display. United kicked-off this Premier Division fixture using a 4-3-3 format and were soon having to defend against some early Dukinfield pressure. The hosts No11 created a couple of mazy runs and his crosses into the area were confidently dealt with by Beechy defenders Joe Poyser and Deren Saunders. Great link-up play between Zack Murray and Tom Allcock got Beechy going forward with real attacking intent and at the end of another move Bradley Hodges won Beechy their first corner. United keeper Jack Gilbraith made his first real save when he dealt with an effort from the Dukinfield No8 then David McCarthy produced some great defending after the hosts had worked the ball down the left flank. Leighton Egan and Keenan Switzer grafted non-stop in midfield and Beechy took the lead in the sixteenth minute after Bradley Hodges took a quick throw-in and Sam Bolton's intelligent pass found Kurtis Lee who with his left foot fired the ball into the net off the post.
Dukinfield Town were soon back on the attack and they used the full width of their big grass pitch to try and breakdown United's well organised back four. The hosts had the ball in the Beechy net but a raised referee assistant's flag ruled out the goal after the Dukinfield No9 was caught in an offside position. A free kick taken by Leighton Egan was floated into the area and getting up above the hosts defence was Kurtis Lee who's header dropped just over the crossbar. Beechy continued to defend superbly under pressure and once again both Deren Saunders and Joe Poyser made vital ball winning tackles inside the area. Just two minutes into the second half Dukinfield Town equalised after the hosts No9 from close range netted a rebound off the unlucky Jack Galbraith. Oliver Toco who was making his United debut forced Beechy's first corner after the break but play was quickly back in United's half and Zack Murray and Joe Poyser made vital clearances from inside the area. A terrific solo run by Bradley Hodges carved out a chance for Kurtis Lee but his first time volley flew over the crossbar. Mike Phythian replaced David McCarthy and he took on a defensive role while Leighton Egan, Keenan Switzer and Sam Bolton maintained a high work ethic across a congested midfield.
The hosts went 2-1 up after sixty five minutes when United lost the ball in their own half and the Dukinfield No11 went on a clear run and drilled a shot low past Jack Galbraith. Beechy were behind for less than three minutes when Mike Phythian who had moved forward during another United attack hammered the ball which appeared to take a slight deflection into the net from twenty five yards. Both teams were fully committed to all out attack and Dukinfield Town kept the Beechy defence on constant alert and shots from the hosts No10 and No16 were just off target. Beechy's workrate all over the pitch continued to be of a fantastic nature in the latter stages and it was a difficult task naming a Man of the Match but eventually the award went to Joe Poyser. The teams meet again in the reverse fixture on Saturday 2nd October 2021.
