- 2-0 Down A Team Recover To Win 8-2
On Saturday 26th September 2020 Beechfield United A Team secured an 8-2 victory over visitors to David Lewis Playing Fields Heyside Reserves but after wasting chances galore in the first half United found themselves 2-0 down at half time.
Heyside made a fast start to this Manchester Football League Division 4 fixture and were awarded a penalty in the 5th minute but Beechy keeper Joe Haye saved a well struck spot-kick by the visitors No9. Moving the ball around with real accuracy Heyside kept United's four man defence of Bradley Hodges, Deren Saunders, Josh Egan and Tom Allcock under pressure for long periods. The action was fast and furious and Beechy always a threat going forward should have been at least three goals ahead before Heyside opened the scoring after twelve minutes. A speculative curling effort by the visitors No8 flew over the keeper and into the side netting then five minutes later Heyside's No11 moving in from the right flank hammered the ball home just under the crossbar for 2-0.
Making his Beechy debut was Zar Jordan who replaced the injured David McCarthy and he was soon involved as United looked for and instant response. There were chances on offer for both Kane Rowley and Callum Davies but with only the keeper to beat they couldn't add the required finish. More controlled attacking play from Heyside forced some vital defending from United's back four plus Keeper Joe Haye who made a couple of smart saves. A well executed free kick by the visitors No11 hit the post then when play switched to the other end of the pitch Callum Davies and Nathan Bester should have scored but they blasted the ball straight at the keeper. United's frustration continued following more missed chances and Beechy had a goal disallowed after Callum Davies was judged to be offside before he put the ball in the net. HT 0-2.
Straight from the restart United found a good attacking rhythm and I doubt the Beechy players and officials expected to totally dominate the second half. A superb move between Keenan Switzer and Zar Jordan led to a powerful strike by the latter force a one-handed save from the Heyside keeper but has the ball rolled across the area Derren Saunders was left with an easy finish. Both Zar Jordan and substitute Kurtis Lee had decent chances from close range prior to Zar using his terrific pace to race past Heyside's left back and add a clinical finish for 2-2. It was one way traffic as Beechy enjoying almost 85% possession and looking capable of scoring at the end of every attack ran their opponents ragged. Kane Rowley started the move that resulted in United taking a deserved lead after Keenan Switzer and Zar Jordan combined to set-up Callum Davies who fired the ball low into the corner of the net.
Minutes later great skill by Keenan Switzer in midfield left two opponents flat footed and a long pass down the left flank found Callum Davies who made no mistake from just inside the area for the fourth goal. Hardly wasting possession United continued to produce some high quality football from back to front and goal number five arrived when right back Bradley Hodges delivered a fabulous crossfield pass for Callum Davies and once again United's leading goal scorer supplied another top-class finish to complete his hat trick. Heyside quite simply had no answer to Beechy's overall strength and ability in the second half and taking advantage of a poor back pass Callum Davies made it 6-2 then after wasting two good chances Kurtis Lee finished a move involving Callum and Derren for the seventh goal. Defender Josh Egan completed the scoring in the 79th minute.
