- U/11's Tornadoes Match Details 28/9/2024
Salford and Districts Junior League U/11's Yellow Group
Beechfield Utd U/11 Tornadoes v Moorside Rangers U/11 Green
The Tornadoes went into today's derby game with Moorside wearing their new away kit. Unfortunately the new kit did not bring any luck as we were defeated in a spicy encounter.
The match started quite evenly with half chances for both teams but neither keeper really tested. Moorside struck the bar half way through the first half before taking the lead. Jayden Lowe came agonisingly close to equalising for Beechy, but shot straight at the Moorside keeper when clean through who pulled off a fine save. Beechy continued to press and had numerous chances to equalise, but a combination of the post and more fantastic saves from the Moorside keeper kept Beechy at bay. Moorside then doubled their lead when scoring direct into the roof of the net from a dubiously awarded direct free kick. Tempers rose on and off the field just before half time when Alex McGrory went off injured following a disgraceful challenge from a Moorside player which surely would have seen red at any level above junior. The referee failed to act however.
The second half continued in the same manner with Beechy dominating the ball and playing most of the game in the Moorside half. Whatever chances we created again were missed, saved by the fantastic Moorside keeper or struck the woodwork again.
Tackles were flying in from both sides following the disgraceful challenge at the end of the first half and on occasion the match threatened to boil over both on the pitch and the touchline. The goal never came for Beechy today and Moorside scored a third goal around 10 minutes from the end.
This was a strange game where Tornadoes had more chances and possession than the opposition but simply couldn't put the ball in the back of the net. Moorside's keeper was the best player on the park. We weren't strong enough in the tackle at the back leading to us conceding some soft goals and ultimately I think Moorside wanted it more than us today. No individual stood out today so there was no player of the match award. Work to do in training ahead of next weeks game.
