- U/8's Storm Match Details 28/9/2024
Salford and Districts Junior League
Beechfield Storm U/8s v Moorside Rangers Green
Playing on their new winter home pitch storm took some time to acclimatise - there was some warning signs both sides though Freddy ever vigilant at the back marshalled well mopping up most attacks and starting his own from the back. It was Fred who was the one to start Beechy rolling; first a cross from Imad finding Freddy who then slammed a shot on to the crossbar and shortly after having another chance from an identical position resulting in a diving save from the keeper.
Pressure did tell as Imad's pace and trickery took him to the bye-line, slid the ball in to Fred who powered an easy finish.
The game was evenly matched with Moorside getting a break away though this was really well marshalled by Vincent who was rapid off his line - staying alert throughout the game. As time went, Beechfield starting to apply more pressure - George lofted the ball in high from the left, this controlled by Imad who in turn fed Caleb who was subsequently fouled by the goalkeeper.. Caleb selflessly handed to the ball to Imad who eagerly took it and scored!
Starting the second half Beechfield really started to click with some superb one/two touch passing though it was the pressure from Imad and Caleb up top that caused an error by the defender and Caleb finished coolly into the bottom left.
Alfie, who had played outfield and had taken a lot of excellent positions throughout the game struck a purple patch - first a shot assisted by Caleb that was saved by the goal keeper and again shortly after a ball squeezed through by Imad, left by Caleb & found to the feet of Alfie who smashed the ball bottom right for his first goal of the season. Shortly after Alfie put his defenders hat back on halting a potential Moorside break away by playing a first time ball through to Fred who with his back to goal turned though his shot curled narrowly wide.
The woodwork got some love again as Imad hit the post though shortly after - Caleb the creator, flicked the ball with the outside of his foot setting up Imad. Shortly after Fred pinged a ball in from the touchline controlled by Caleb who finished well.
Any opposition attack in this half George had his eye on - had selflessly sat back breaking up multiple attacks and mopping up any spilt balls. Did have a couple of pot shots though played his role impeccably today.
Vincent now coming outfield was unlucky to not get on the end of a couple of chances and the goal keeper of Moorside made some excellent saves from Freddy and from Imad twice to keep the score down.
3 clean sheets in a row which at one point was unheard of - led by Freddy, George, Alfie and Vincent today (with Imad also taking on the role for a period) was very strong & a big shout out to George who was a behemoth at the back in the second half.
*Moment of the Match*
Period of 5 minutes where Storm turned it on, looked like they were playing a game of rondo.
*POTM*
Shouted out by the team *Alfie* - played all 3 positions well today, passing was very much on point throughout with a couple of delightful first time passes to put his team mates through. Always took up really clever positions & took his goal very well. Again; could have gone to any of the lads though as all played a big part.
