- Second Defeat of The Season For 1st Team
For the second time in seven days Beechfield United 1st Team met Dukinfield Town in the Manchester Football League.
Previously on 25/9/2021 the teams had fought out a 2-2 draw and another closely fought contest was predicted but despite having home advantage Beechy suffered a 3-1 defeat. United Manager Mark McWilliams was forced to make a late team reshuffle before kick-off with goalkeeper Jason Rodgers replacing the injured Jack Gilbraith. United won the games first free kick but an effort from Keenan Switzer was easily dealt with by the alert Dukinfield keeper. The visitors quickly found a good attacking rhythm and a couple of swift breakaway moves forced some safety first defending from Joe Poyser and Kurtis Lee. Beechy took the lead in the 8th minute when Keenan Switzer won possession and easily went past three opponents before sidefooting the ball across to Sam Bolton who had a simple close range finish. The visitors No11 delivered two pinpoint crosses that created his team decent chances and the same player had an effort on target hit the post after twelve minutes.
United were guilty of conceding far too many soft free kicks and following one dead ball situation the Dukinfield No7 was inches away from finding the back of the net. Top class defending from Bradley Hodges and Deren Saunders briefly denied the visitors an equalising goal until a slick move involving Dukinfield's No10 and No7 ended when the latter slotted the ball home from eight yards. As Beechy searched for an instant reply the midfield trio of Zack Murray, Keenan Switzer and Leighton Egan worked hard to win United a decent share of the ball. Callum Davies and Leighton Egan combined down the left flank to carve out a chance for Sam Bolton who's effort was well saved by Dukinfield keeper. Bradley Hodges produced another superb defence spitting pass but a referee assistant's raised flag indicated that Callum Davies was offside when he received the ball. Jason Rodgers was called into action and he responed with two great saves when Beechy were guilty of wasting possession just outside the penalty area. (HT 1-1)
The second half was barely three minutes old when Dukinfield Town were awarded a throw-in after the ball had clearly deflected out of play off one of their players and the visitors No8 added the finish to a move down the right wing. Keenan Switzer and Sam Bolton exchanged passes and set-up a shooting chance for Callum Davies but an effort by the United striker was deflected for a corner. The visitors took a tighter grip on this Premier Division contest after they went 3-1 up when Beechy were punished for some slack defending which allowed the Dukinfield No9 an easy finish. Kyle Galbraith who had replaced Deren Saunders in the back four was just off target with a bullet header following a free kick then Sam Bolton saw his snap shot curl inches wide.
Dukinfield Town continued to dictate the pace of the game but United attacked at every opportunity and pushed central defender Kurtis Lee up front in the last fifteen minutes. There were a few half chances for Beechy to reduce the arrears and on one occasion after producing a solo run on the left wing Callum Davies hammered the ball at the target but the visitors keeper made a brilliant fingertip save. United's Man of the Match was Leighton Egan.
