- Junior Section Match Details 7/10/2023
Despite a couple of postponements and one team without a fixture there was another busy Saturday morning in the Junior Section on 7th/8th October 2023.
*Beechy Under 8's THUNDER started their Challenge Cup run with a tough away game at Ordsall Cubs and the tie was a tense but exciting game of football. Thunder's Man of the Match was Harrison Spencer for his workrate and energy he expended throughout the game. It was Harrison who gave Beechy the lead midway through the first half with a left footed shot from around the penalty-spot. Chances were on offer for both teams and the Ordsall Cubs goalkeeper had a particularly impressive morning and with time running out it looked as if the hosts had equalised but Beechy keeper Oscar Spencer produced an incredible save. With absences in the team George Kelly played in defence and it was his through ball that sent Chase Sixsmith on a clear run and Chase added a calm finish to guaranteed Thunder their victory. Special mentions to Jude Bond and Harry Wright who sood up to the battle with Jude the victim of some rough treatment from the hosts.
*At Beech Farm Playing Fields the Under 8's STORM met neighbours Moorside Rangers Green in the Challenge Tournament. Unfortunately Storm lost the tie but the squad for the game Jude Aimson, Calvin Hunter, Charlie Schofield, Corey Davies, Rocky Linehan, Sonny Cox, Alfie Garner and Jacob McLoughlin all produced top-class performances.
*Dominating their Challenge Cup away game with Moorside Rangers Blues the Under 9's STORM were rewarded for playing some really good football with a place in the next round of the competition. Seth Barber scored four goals and both Bobby Lowe and Alfie Heighway were on target with a goal apiece when Beechy's impressive form was on display again as Storm maintained their unbeaten run.
*In their Challenge Cup tie with Swinton Warriors the Under 9's THUNDER produced a strong performance and were rewarded with a win plus a clean sheet. All the team played well and some of passing of the ball was the best seen so far this season matched by a great attitude on the pitch. Goalscorers for Thunder were Hugo Balogun, Lyle Glass, Deo Waiwai and for his solid defensive display Grayson Brook-Lefley was named Man of the Match.
*For the second successive Saturday Beechy Under 10's STORM were in action against Boothston Devils. What has become a theme this season Storm who started slowly in this Challenge Cup tie and found themselves a goal down. As the first half developed Beechy created some decent chances but after being wasteful ended up still trailing by the one goal at half time. In the second half Storm were soon on the front foot as they searched for an equaliser which eventually came after a great through ball from Max Schofield and a quality finish by Austin Pierce. Beechy stared to dominate the tie but somehow they found themselves behind again following a couple of breakaway attacks by Boothstown that earned the vistors two more goals. Storm's players continued to work hard and Beechy pulled a goal back when after great attacking play by Barkley Pope down the right wing the ball broke to Kobe Glass who scrambled it into the net. As Storm pushed hard to get back level two efforts hit the post while the Boothstown keeper made a few great saves.
*Making a great start in their Challenge Cup home game with Salford Storm were the Under 10's TORNADOES. Austin Fillingham executed a great free kick into the top corner of the net to give Beechy the lead. The Tornadoes continued to dominate as they created chance after chance but they couldn't find the elusive second goal and against the run of play Salford Storm equalised just before half time. The second half was a bit more end to end and once again Beechy were extremely unlucky not to score another goal. It proved to be the case that when you don't take your chances you get punished and it was Salford Storm who found a match winning goal. Special mention for Crewe Reeves who put in a fantastic performance despite being on the receiving end of some strong tackles. This was a really hard result for the Tornadoes to accept.
*With home advantage the Under 11's TORNADOES (9v9) were in action in the Challenge Cup against Old Trafford Juniors. The game was played at a slow pace due to the long and wet grass but that didn't stop the teams who were of a similar quality producing a thrilling cup tie. Beechy took an early lead when Sami Kassim scored from the penalty-spot then the Tornadoes went two goals up via Kian Murphy. Old Trafford reduced the arrears before half time and as the action switched from end to end in the second half Daniel Badewa who displayed great skill on the edge of the area fired home Beechy's third goal. Following two long range strikes Old Trafford got back level then the visitors took the lead from another long range effort. The Tornadoes who pushed hard for an equaliser were awarded a free kick in the last minute and Kian nudged the ball onto Luke Bennett who scored to take the tie into a penalty shoot-out. During a tense spot-kick decider the Tornadoes goalkeeper Harvey Pugh made two excellent saves but Old Trafford eventually won the shoot-out. Kian Murphy was Man of the Match but full praise for all Beechy's players for their great efforts during another proud performance.
*The Under 12's THUNDER were away at Salford Jaguars in the 1st Round of the Challenge Cup and thanks to a superb second half display won the tie 6-1. Having to play uphill in the first half on a pitch with a prominent slope the Beechy players struggled to adapt to the difficult conditions. Thunder had a few half chances that went begging and it was the Jaguars who took one of their chances to lead 1-0 at half time. Playing downhill in the second period Beechy quickly stamped their authority on the game and Ajab Fakeeh made a run down the left wing before moving the ball onto Roman Jackson-Williams who equalised via a neat finish. Shortly after Theo McNulty went on a mazy run into the area and from close range knocked the ball into the net to put Thunder 2-1 up. Following an attack on the right wing from the edge of the area Samuel Sulmataj hammered the ball home for goal number three then Ajab Fakeeh added the fourth goal when he beat a couple of opponents before suppling a low finish at the near post. Roman Jackson-Williams got his second goal for 5-1 after the ball was crossed into the area and he fired it high into the net. A poor kick from the Swinton keeper led to goal number six when the ball fell to Ajab who set-up Maddox Taylor and he completed the scoring. Goalkeeper Leon Heathcote-Clare created a confident display while Ollie Sixsmith, Jermaine Rose and Abdulaziz Mohammed were solid in defence. Theo McNulty and Mohammed Edris were in tremendous form in midfield, Brooke Anderson-Rough, Maddox, Samuel and Ajab excelled in the wide positions plus great play up front from Kristian Georgiev and Roman.
*Producing another star-studded display were the Under 13's STORM who met Salford Storm Lightning at home in the Challenge Cup and on top throughout the tie Storm hit double figures as they secured a comfortable victory. On target with the goals for Beechy were Elijah Knott, Mohammed Martin, Connor O'Sullivan, Roman Sandaji, Timothy Badewa, Ehiremen Ehijie and Reuben Wardle.
*At home for the third successive Saturday the Under 14's TORNADOES faced a tricky Challenge Cup game against Division 1 outfit Coach Hene Eagles. Throughout the tie the Tornadoes whp play in Division 2 in the Salford and Districts League competed well and were unlucky to concede two penalties and an own goal amongst the six scored by Coach Hene. Goals for Beechy who lost the game 6-3 came via Finn Browne (2) and Josh Beddows.
*Back in action in the East Manchester Junior League were Beechy Under 15's THUNDER who played Cheadle and Gatley at home in the 1st Round of the Presidents Cup. Thunder were looking for an improved performance after suffering a heavy defeat when the teams met two weeks earlier. Beechy got the opening goal from Owen Hogben who volleyed the ball into the net following a free kick taken by Joshua Whitehead. In a busy first half Thunder were forced to do some vital defending but they survived after pressure from the visitors to hold their one goal advantage at half time. Cheadle and Gatley equalised when they received a helping hand from the referee who failed to blow the whistle after a visitors striker had clearly interfered with play. A long hopeful ball forward caught the Thunder defence flat-footed allowing a lone Cheadle and Gatley striker get a touch on the ball in a one-on-one with the keeper giving the visitors a 2-1 lead. The away side secured their 3-1 win they probably deserved due to a defensive mix-up but this was harsh on Thunder's defence who had worked their socks off in the second half. This was definately a much better all-round Beechy display and named Man of the Match was Rafael Alarcon.
*Following another high scoring performance The Under 16's HURRICANES earned a fully deserved 6-2 away win over FC Bridgewater. Starting off brightly Beechy played some truly amazing football as they passed the ball well and moving with purpose allowed their opponents hardly any possession and this resulted in the Hurricanes taking the lead through a left footed finish from Alfie Gridlestone. Beechy's dominance continued and another effort by Alfie hit the crossbar but Ausou Eltomseenen was in the right place to score from the rebound. The Hurricanes went 3-0 up when Brandon Cini finished off a great move as he curled the ball into the bottom corner of the net. But Beechy suddenly became complacent and giving the ball away in dangerous areas allowed FC Bridgewater to reduce the arrears with two goals. The Hurricanes quickly found their rhythm again after the break and added goal number four through Oghenekaro Ibodje who finshed off yet another sweeping attacking move. Brandon Cini made it 5-1 when he netted his second goal of the game before Kane Wood got in on the act with the sixth goal to complete the scoring. This was one of the Hurricanes best performances and choosing a Man of the Match proved to be a difficult task. The award was shared between Glenn Tepa who was making his Beechy debut and Liam Woodward.
