- First League Win of The Season For Beechy Ladies
Beechy Ladies secured their first Division 1 win of the season in the Greater Manchester Womens League with a 5-1 away victory over Heyside Ladies.
On a top-quality Astroturf Pitch the hosts kicked-off the match and forced a throw-in after twenty seconds. Returning to Beechy's squad was Sophie Addison who displayed neat footwork down the right wing before firing the ball wide of the target. Stand-in Keeper Shauna Smith made her first real save when she dealt with an effort from outside the area by Heyside's main striker their No17. Julie Ward made a great tackle to win the ball and sent Sophie Addison on another mazy run which resulted in Beechy winning their first corner. Taking the flag kick was Stacy Partridge and Heyside's No4 cleared the ball straight to Nicola Campion who shot wide from about twelve yards. A neat move between Monique Pollard and Ashleigh Morris led to an attempt to score from about thirty yards by Becky Topping.
Heyside focused most of their attacks down the right wing and twice in quick succession their dangerous No10 was left frustrated after easily missing the target. Beechy continued to enjoy more of the ball and took the lead in the 16th minute when a long pass from Ashleigh Morris was controlled by Sophie Addison and her cross was volleyed into the net off the keeper by Stacy Partridge. After a brief stoppage due to an injury to an Heyside player Aimee Greenwood produced a great solo run but her accurate cross into the area just failed to find a teammate. A few direct attacking flurries from Heyside brought the hosts only a few half chances due to some impressive defending from Sian Anderson and Bethany Hill.
Heyside forced their first corner just after the half hour mark but Beechy easily dealt with the inswinging flag kick and were quickly back on the attack. Beechy were in a confident mood and moved the ball around with pace and accuracy on the artificial surface as they searched for a second goal. Julie Ward, Stacy Partridge and Ashleigh Morris linked-up superbly in a swift move which ended when the Heyside keeper booted the ball to safety. Stacy and Sophie combined in Beechy's next positive attack and a snap shot by Nicola Campion from fifteen yards dipped over the crossbar. The hosts forced two more corners close to half time but once again Beechy's immaculate defending had to be admired.
Hannah Walker replaced Nicola Campion at the start of the second half and almost scored within minutes of coming onto the pitch after a brilliant cross from Monique Pollard. Heyside made a bright start in the second period and briefly put pressure on Beechy's back four and Julie Ward, Sian Anderson and Bethany Hill made vital clearances. Sophie Addison won Beechy their first corner of the second half and slowly taking a tighter grip on the contest Beechy went 2-0 up from a free kick taken by Stacy Partridge who created the highlight of the game when she executed a spectacular finish from forty yards. Then two minutes later Aimee Greenwood and Monique Pollard worked the ball up the left wing and after a mistake by the Heyside keeper Hannah Walker scored from close range to make it 3-0.
Beechy stepped up a gear and kept the pressure on their opponents who relied heavily this half on the counter-attack. Jessica Jones who had replaced Julie Ward was soon involved in the action and she nearly helped herself to a goal after a pass from Sophie Addison. Stand-in keeper Shauna Smith who had a fairly easy second half was finally beaten when Heyside reduced the arrears after their No10 had been left unmarked inside the area following a breakaway move on the left flank. The hosts were reduced to ten players following a red card incident and having the advantage of the extra player Beechy totally dominated possession in the final fifteen minutes.
Beechy's fourth goal arrived when Hannah Walker raced onto a great pass from Jessica Jones and held off a strong challenge from a Heyside defender before hammering the ball into the roof of the net. Monique Pollard delivered a couple of pinpoint crosses into the area which almost produced winning results and twice Stacy Patridge had shots blocked by brave Heyside defending. In added time Sophie Addison celebrated her return to the team when she completed the scoring via a superb individual goal. Hannah Walker was voted Beechy's Player of the Match.
