- 1st Team Rediscover Winning Formula
Beechfield United 1st Team rediscovered the winning formula on Saturday 9th October 2021 thanks to a 5-1 away win over Heyside FC.
Once again Beechy had to make team changes for this Manchester Football League Premier Division fixture played on an Astroturf Pitch. In the opening five minutes Zack Murray, Kyle Galbraith, Deren Saunders and Danny Royle dealt with an early attacking threat from the hosts and following Heyside's first corner Kyle Galbraith under pressure produced a great headed clearance. Zach Booth, Keenan Switzer and Leighton Egan were soon involved in midfield making several inch perfect passes to set-up Beechy attacks. United's first chance of a goal arrived when Zack Murray sent the ball diagonally down the right wing and after advancing into the penalty area Kurtis Lee's shot on target was palmed away by the hosts keeper.
Man of the Match Deren Saunders and Kyle Galbraith were at the heart of more solid Beechy defending when Heyside's use of the long ball tactic came into operation. The hosts No7 and No9 made numerous threatening runs off the ball as Heyside enjoyed a decent start to the match. After winning the ball with a strong tackle Keenan Switzer angled a great crossfield pass which sent Kurtis Lee on a clear run but Beechy's main striker fired the ball inches wide of the target. Then Kurtis was judged to be offside after he had slotted the ball past the keeper following a another superb pass from Zack Murray. Beechy keeper Brandon Burns who was making his debut was in action dealing with overhit passes from the hosts and slowly United began to dictate the pace of the game.
An excellent flowing move between Danny Royle, Zack Booth and Callum Davies down the left wing forced another corner. Leighton Egan was at the heart of the majority of Beechy's impressive attacks and United took the lead when a corner taken by Mike Phythian was met by Kurtis Lee who's powerful header opened the scoring. Three minutes later Deren Saunders set-up the second goal when he supplied the pass that resulted in Callum Davies ghosting past two defenders before adding a magnificent finish. Heyside went close to reducing the arrears but Beechy's back four remained rock-solid and United were good value for their 2-0 lead at the break.
In the early stages of the second half Heyside produced a few positive attacking moves forcing some key defending from Beechy who quickly found their rhythm going forward and as they threatened to score again Callum Davies hammered a shot straight at the keeper then Keenan Switzer lobbed the ball inches over the crossbar. The hosts No8 sent a half volley from twenty yards on target but Brandon Burns was able to make a fairly comfortable save. Zack Murray, Kurtis Lee and Keenan Switzer combined in an excellent counter-attack and an effort from the latter was deflected for a corner. After seventy minutes United went 3-0 up thanks to a brilliant pass over the last defender by Leighton Egan that set-up a brilliant finsh from Kurtis Lee.
A rare counter-attack from Heyside led to the hosts consolation goal following a corner but United quickly regained control and added goal number four in the 85th minute when Keenan Switzer slotted the ball into the net at the third attempt. In added time United were rewarded with their fifth goal after substitute Bryon Ward and Danny Royle were involved in a move on the left wing and Kurtis Lee completed his hat trick and the scoring with another decisive finish.
