Match Report 12.10.2024 Beechy U/8's Thunder (SDJFL Blue Group)

Beechfield Thunder versus Old Trafford Juniors

A tough fixture today for the Beechy boys against a very good Old Trafford team who impressed us in a pre season friendly. Thunder started with Bobby in goal, Angelo and Elliot in defence with Finley and José leading the attacking front. Thunder started brightly in the first 5 minutes with some good attacking runs from José leading to half chances that just wouldn't fall kindly for him. Finley and Elliot having some good bursts of play on the flanks with Angelo looking to play in direct balls from the back but Old Trafford were proving to be very quick to any loose balls. Shortly after it was Old Trafford who scored first against the run of play after an unfortunate scramble in defence led to an own goal. Old Trafford netted there second shortly after from a spell of attacking play that Thunder just couldn't clear quick enough. Thunder looking shell shocked it was Old Trafford who went on to hit two more before the half time break.

Into the second half and it was to play out similar to the first with some good play from the lads but we just couldn't find that end product as Old Trafford were proving very difficult to break down and they capitalised with two early goals. Gio, Che, Shammah and Ralph were called into action trying their hardest to get Beechy back into the game but it was looking like the Thunder gods were just not on our side today. Thunder had some good bouts of play as we tried to press Old Trafford who were looking comfortable in possession. Bobby was called into action on numerous occasions and made some fantastic saves. With Old Trafford trying for more goals Thunder had some chances with Che and José coming close but after leaving ourselves open it was Old Trafford who eventually went on to hit another four goals. Desperate to open their scoring account, Thunder managed to get one goal on the sheet before the final whistle after a ball from the back led to José being 1 on 1 with the keeper and he took the finish well into the bottom corner.
Very tough game for the boy's today against an impressive Old Trafford side but one they'll definitely learn from for the future ⚡.

Man of the Match - Bobby, despite being our heaviest defeat he kept going and made some outstanding saves.
