- Sat Morn Team Round-Up September/October 2021
Following their first home game of the season Beechfield United Saturday Morning Senior Team suffered their second defeat in a row to newly promoted New Moston Rangers.
Early in this Division 1 fixture Beechy squandered two great chances and were punished when New Moston took the lead after a counter-attack. Beechy continued to dominate possession but the visitors who produced some solid defending were looking to maintain their lead and were still 1-0 up at half time. In the second half United made a slow start and New Moston seized the advantage when they increased their lead this time following a corner. Pushing extra players forward in an effort to get back into the game thanks to a superb goal by Wes Pierce Beechy reduced the arrears. But while United had high hopes of an equaliser New Moston counter-attacked again and against the run of play took a 3-1 lead. Almost immediately Beechy hit back and a fine finish from Gary Wallis made it 3-2 then United should have been rewarded with more goals after three efforts hit the crossbar. New Moston ensured the three points with their fourth goal late in the game and though this was a good performance from United the result was the wrong one. (18/9/2021)
When United travelled to play Heston FC on the 2nd October they were hoping for a positive reaction against their opponents who had also began the season without a win. Having to deal with the bad weather and a poor pitch Beechy struggled to produce their possession football however they should have gone ahead through Danny Alder who's curling effort hit the crossbar. On the quarter-hour mark United lost their striker Danny Browne which was a real setback and to make matters worse Beechy gifted Heston the lead after a poor back pass and United's overall performance began to suffer. With ten minutes left to play Beechy conceded a second goal from a corner but as the weather continued to play havoc United hit back when during a goalmouth scramble Gary Wallis reduced the arrears. Beechy could and should have earned themselves at least a 2-2 draw but big chances were missed by Hayden Foulds and Anthony Wallis.
Beechy who were away again on 09/10/2021 knew they faced a tough ninety minutes against AFC Middleton who had won their first three games. From past history this fixture has always produced a great game between the two sides and again the players didn't disappoint. United started the game creating some neat one touch football and good movement upfront was rewarded with a fantastic goal scored by Kyle Mears. AFC Middleton pushed hard for an equaliser but Beechy defended well keeping the ball in tight situations but the hosts got a lucky break when a cross into the area cannoned off the unlucky Tom Scott and into the net. HT 1-1. The game was tight in the second half with both teams continuing to play good football but clear cut chances were few and far between. A good breakaway move led to AFC Middleton taking a 2-1 lead and during a period when Beechy made a valid attempt to get back level the hosts added a third goal which eventually earned them the win and the three points. a late rally from Beechy amost forced a draw and on one occasion a great strike from Gary Wallis was cleared of the line.
