- Junior Section Match Details 21/10/2023
Just four games went ahead in the Junior Section after heavy rain left several pitches waterlogged adding to a list of already postponed games.
*There was another really good all-round performance from Beechy Under 9's STORM in their final Challenge Cup Group A game and a win away against Old Traford would see Beechy win the group. As expected the tie produced a tight start with both teams creating some good quality football hat saw Storm create some first-class triangle passing and forward moves. The deadlock was broken after ten minutes when Beechy took the lead through a good move finished of well by Bobby Lowe then Storm added a second goal shortly after via a well driven shot on the edge of the area from Seth Barber. Both teams made several big tackles to win possession and Alfie Heighway was a strong presence in midfield winning most if not all the 50/50 challenges. After making some team changes Old Trafford upped their game and the hosts got back level with two goals in relatively quick succession. Despite the scoreline at half time Beechy keeper George Savage didn't really have a great deal to do throughout the first half. For the second half Storm changed their formation and the pattern of play was more of the same both competitive and tight. When Old Trafford pushed hard to find an equaliser the Beechy Boys defended superbly as they put their bodies on the line. Continuing to dominate the midfield Alfie Heighway hit Beechy's eventual match winning goal midway through the second half and Storm worked hard to stay ahead to remain unbeaten at the top of the group. There were stand-out performances from Jacob Foster in defence Man of the Match Alfie Heighway and Harry Heathcote-Clare but all the other players created fantastic displays.
*The Challenge Cup tie between the Under 8's THUNDER and Winton Vikings was switched to Beech Farm Playing Fields. Thunder needed just one point to ensure they qualifield to the end of the season knockout stages of the competition. The game produced a scrappy opening period before Beechy made the vital breakthrough with two goals in quick succession when Harrison Spencer opened the scoring then George Kelly was on target when he netted goal number two. Thunder then faced some pressure towards the end of the first half and Winton managed to reduce the arrears and the Vikings nearly equalised on the stroke of half time but not for the first time this season Beechy's goalkeeper Oscar Spencer pulled off an incredible save. The second half was a tense affair and Thunder had chances but the finishing touch was missing until with minutes remaining George Kelly scored Beechy's third goal when he fired the ball home from the edge of the area. George completed his hat trick and the scoring when he receved a through ball from Harrison Spencer before adding a right footed finish. Following so many brilliant individual performances Jude Bond was named Man of the Match for a display of calmness, composure and energy.
*In the Bolton Bury and District League the Under 16's HURRICANES were hoping to extend their three match unbeaten run when they met top of Section C team Jogaola Blues. The match had been reversed to Beechy's ground and the Hurricanes knew they faced a tough eighty minutes. Jogabola were quickly out of the starting blocks and took the lead but the Hurricanes replied with an equaliser from Brandon Cini. Gradually gathering momentum Beechy pressed well in all areas and winning the midfield battle went 2-1 up through Ethan Mangwiro who scored with a superb strike from just inside the area. Playing some fantastic football the Hurricanes kept the pressure on their opponents but Jagabola got back into the game with two goals to lead 3-2 at half time. Despite creating chances following more good football in the second half the Hurricanes lost their impetus and after conceding three more goals unfortunately suffered a 6-2 defeat. Full credit to all the Beechy players who battled right up to the final whistle.
