Having already beaten AFC Middleton in a pre-season friendly Beechfield United Saturday Morning Senior Team went into their opening Division 1 game of the 2020/2021 season fully confident of securing three points.

Beechy had home advantage but they made a nervous start and allowed AFC Middleton a few chances early in the game. Against the run of play United took the lead following a huge error by the visitors keeper then shortly after Beechy made it 2-0 but AFC Middleton manage to reduce the arrears. After the twenty minute mark Beechy started to dominate the match and held a comfortable 4-1 lead at half time. Totally in charge United produced a great second half display and despite conceding two more goals added four more themselves and collected the three points and secure an 8-3 victory. Goals for Beechy came via Max Leonard(3) Damon Whitbread, Hayden Foulds, Danny Alder, Wes Pierce plus an own goal. (3/10/2020)

Seven days later Beechy were away to newly promoted outfit Heston FC and United went into the game as favourites following their previous win against AFC Middleton but United lost the match 2-1. A poor pitch and even poorer weather made it difficult for Beechy to play their quick passing game and Heston's more direct approach early in the contest gave United cause for concern. Overall Beechy were below-par and a rare mistake by keeper Chris Pollock gifted the hosts a penalty midway through the first half however the Heston player missed with the spot-kick. In the second half United continued to struggle with the poor conditions and went a goal down following a corner but Beechy kept working hard and the referee failed to award United a clear-cut penalty. With ten minutes to go Beechy finally got back level via Max Leonard after a great pass from Danny Alder but as they pushed for a more goals Beechy were hit on the counter-attack and it was Heston who grabbed the match winner despite United wanting the goal disallowed for offside. Following the surprise defeat against Heston FC Beechfield United Manager Kyle Wray demanded a reaction from his players prior to the home game with Eastlands FC. Team changes were made that included centre half Tom Scott making his debut and Beechy made an encouraging start taking the lead in less than three minutes. Top goal scorer Max Leonard was clearly fouled inside the area and taking the penalty himself easily netted the spot-kick to open the scoring. Then Max made it 2-0 when he added an accurate finish following another great assist by Scott Foulds his second of the game. Eastland's were continually looking to get behind United's defence via their fast strikers however Beechy were able to deal with the threat. In cruise control United went 3-0 up when superb link-up play between Scott Foulds and Danny Alder ended with the latter adding a superb left footed finish.

A brilliant last ditch tackle by Tom Scott halted a powerful run into the area by Eastland's No16 following another well crafted move from the visitors. Beechy continued to press high up the pitch and went close to going four goals up before Eastland's reduced the arrears from the penalty spot. Taking full advantage of a bad clearance by the Eastland's keeper was Wes Pierce who displayed a wonderful touch on the ball before he slotted it past the keeper via a great left foot strike. Leading 4-1 at half time Beechy made some tactical changes with Danny Browne joining the action but the changes in the back four seemed to affect United's rhythm. On sixty five minutes Eastland's got their second goal when their No8 timed his run into the area and getting on the end of a low cross from the opposite flank scrambled the ball into the net.

After winning the ball with a great tackle Tom Scott sent a superb forward pass that saw Max Leonard race clear unchallenged and via his second hat-trick of the season gave United a 5-2 lead. Rarely wasting possession Eastland's exploited gaps down United's right flank and as the visitors stepped up a gear Beechy suddenly faced added unwanted pressure. The visitors scored a third goal and as the match retained it's competitive edge United kept creating chances with both substitutes Adam Boakes and Damon Whitbread almost adding a sixth Beechy goal. The alarm bells started to ring in the 82nd minute when following a corner Eastland's got a fourth goal so United reverted to five at the back. During a tense final few minutes Eastland's No10 headed wide from close range and some terrific defending by United captain Dean Quinn and Tom Scott was vital to Beechy winning the match 5-4 and securing the three points.
