An archetypal morning under Salford skies in mid-October and the ‘Tornado 5’ were wondering how could their absent Teammates be away on far flung hot beaches missing this! 😂
With 3 players away it was a very tough ask but the hard work and dedication in training to listen and improve in all areas gave them the best possible chance and it showed. Every Man was given a captains armband to wear as they all needed to be one today!
The game got off to an exciting start with some old school tackles and the ref stepping in a number of times with some questionable decisions giving parents and coaches the rush to forget the age group they are watching and be drawn in to the excitement the teams were producing.
The Beechy Boys positioning and distribution was superb, it had to be, against fresh players regularly rotated and primed to attack. Bodie Morrison using the wing as his play ground striding past players and intelligently looking up and draw players away he had some fantastic battles against 3 players at times then breaking through much to the joy of his Dad! The repositioning to cover areas enabling others to attack was excellent.
His trademark passing releasing players several times making the ball work and combining great with Ronnie in particular. Bodie suffered nasty damages from a bad challenge but was able to resume, fight through it and complete the game. The energy bound Ronnie Sangster on only his second game was superb, his work rate and drive to help the Team was exceptional and his goal was so well deserved. First up to score though was the mighty man at the back – Brayden! With a right foot from the football Gods, slick skills and master timing he dominated the back line, with his natural thirst to ripple the opposition net it was only a matter of time before he found it! With control, a few touches and bang from just past the half way line it screamed in to the back of the net.
The opposition keeper by this time had made several saves and it was going to take some special goals to beat him and this was the start we needed. Rapid Ronnie who can also play at the back was asked to run the defence ragged and through pure effort and speed managed to get on the end of a cross and with the deftest of touches Eric Cantona would have been proud of, slotted it past the keeper! A great Team effort that followed lots of attacks and superb passing play from the whole squad.
Following some first half issues the Brave warrior Cormac was tested with some very good play from Deans, the ball slotted over the back a one on one with the attacker having the advantage and with decision making that cannot be taught lunged on the ball with both players crashing together heavily the super Beechy keeper came out proudly with the ball no doubt suffering some bruising and the opposition player having to be swapped out. A fantastic important save which could have turned the tide in the game. Cormac was reliable in goal, super distribution and the Deans Team managing to sneak only one in that they thoroughly deserved. Amir the incredible was at his best and following recent sessions to concentrate on certain areas of the game and be best prepared for his role in this one he shone throughout.
Amir was a joy to watch and his dribbling runs are getting better every week causing mayhem for defenders. Amir’s ‘last man’ tackling and timing is always a shock to both attackers and those not used to seeing his ability. Man of the Match for Amir today! Brayden was able to seal the deal and make it three, his passing today was incredible, splitting defences finding players enabling the attack it gives the team the confidence to make the runs and make it worth the effort. Ronnie was extremely unlucky not to score again, following some great team passing he was able to turn and quickly shoot a great shot only for the keeper to pull off the most amazing diving save with applause from all parties. A great effort with the whole team showing determination, positioning, distribution, bravery, and a needed win in the cup for the Tornadoes! 👏
