- Junior Section Match Reports 26th/27th Oct 2024
In the Salford and Districts Junior League several Beechfield United Junior Section teams were involved in Challenge Tournament games on Saturday morning.
*For their first of three Challenge Tournament fixtures Beechy Under 11's STORM (9v9) were at home to Old Trafford Juniors and what a thrilling game it turned out to be. Two very evenly matched teams represented their clubs superbly and for the spectators it was the epitome of what grassroots football is all about. In the first ten-fifteen minutes Old Trafford dominated play but some resolute defending from Storm limited the visitors to just a few clear cut chances. Beechy were always dangerous via the counter-attack but they missed two really good chances to take the lead and though Storm put extra pressure on the Old Trafford defence they still couldn't find the breakthrough. It was Old Trafford who grabbed the lead but Beechy heads didn't go down and Storm who continued to play some quality football equalised through Ismail Adentona who broke through the visitors backline and following some sublime skills side footed the ball into the corner of the net. Beechy were then the makers of their own downfall when they were punished for giving the ball away at the back and somehow it was bundled into the net allowing Old Trafford to regain the lead.
Encouraging each other the Beechy Boys pushed hard to get back level and Eventually Storm equalised again thanks to Max Schofield who beat two opponents in midfield and with a lovely finish fired the ball home from the edge of the box. The pattern of play in the second half was much the same, the teams evenly matched as the action moved drifted from end to end and it was Beechy who created the better clear cut chances. But Storm rued those missed chances when a Manchester United academy youngster scored what proved to be Old Trafford's winning goal via an accurate strike from twenty yards. Once again Storm pressed hard for an equaliser and they were denied a penalty when after skilfully going past two opponents Joel Momoh had his shirt pulled in the area but the referee failed to award the spot-kick during the last attack of the game. Jack Sinclair was Beechy's Man of the Match after he produced some superb defending plus some great forward passes that got Storm up the pitch.
*Producing a grassroots masterclass performance were Beechy Under 10's STORM who were at home to Winton Wanderers Hornets. In the teams Challenge Tournament second game in Group A the Beechy Boys were all given individual challenges and they responded to the task superbly. Some of the football produced by Storm was a joy to watch and following a fantastic all-round display Jacob Foster was voted Man of the Match. Jacob is turning into a Rolls Royce defender, his positioning is always spot-on plus his ability to win possession. On target with the goals for Storm were Alfie Heighway, Seth Barber, Bobby Lowe and Kade Doyle while assists for the goals came from Harry Heathcote-Clare, Seth, Alfie and Bobby. Beechy other players involved in this brilliant team display were Oscar Pugh, Oscar Berry, Harry Chambers and goalkeeper George Savage.
*The Under 9's THUNDER continued their Challenge Tournament campaign at the picturesque venue of Monton Sports. Against the Mavericks the first half could not have gone much more to plan as Thunder kept their opponents pinned in their own half. Beechy held a two goal lead at half time thanks to Ezra Ramage who scored his first goal for the club and Archie Heighway who's shot from the left flank saw the ball squeeze past the hosts keeper. Monton Sports got a goal back after the break when they reduced the arrears but Storm responded through Man of the Match Jude Bond who netted Beechy's third goal following a solo run. Monton never gave in and during their best spell of football created a couple of chances that kept Storm's keeper Oscar Spencer on his toes. It looked like a nervy finish for Beechy until Harrison Spencer scored Storm's fourth goal after a well worked corner routine. Thunder's next game in the Challenge Tournament is another away fixture against Red Star Lionesses.
*Beechy Under 7's STORM extended their unbeaten run in the Salford and Districts League with a dominant display against Winton Lightning. Showing great sportsmanship Beechy played without a goalkeeper and shared players with their opponents to keep the game balanced. Highlights of the game included a goal scoring spree from Louie, Archie, Ollie, Reni, Jaxx and Harry. There was an impressive midfield display from Noah.
Second game in the Challenge Tournament for the Thunder boys and we were looking to bounce back after a disappointing defeat to Storm in are first outing. Standing in goal for Bobby today was Angelo with Finley and Elliot providing the back line. Captain today was Che leading the attacking line with Ralph, substitutes were José and Shammah. The game got off to a competitive start with both teams having good passages of play but no real breakthroughs on goal. Thunder began to up the pace as the Old Trafford boys didn't look up to their usual fast pace. Elliot began to make his trademark run's down the flank and Finley on the opposite side coming close with a great shot that hit the outside of the post. Ralph and Che began to pick up the loose balls and make some good runs into the Old Trafford box and we're unfortunate not to score on a couple of occasions. Old Trafford sensing the dangers from Thunder began to up their work rate and against the run of play they managed to take the lead with a long range effort on goal. Just before the half time break Old Trafford squeezed in a second from a corner that flew in past the unlucky Angelo in goal.
Into the second half and Thunder came out flying, netting their first goal from a break which Elliot slotted in with precision. Shammah and José with energy in their legs were giving Thunder a new drive going forward and it paved the way for Thunder's second with José finding himself in on goal and he gladly guided his shot over the keeper and into the net. Thunder with their tails up went looking for the third goal and it came quickly after, another breakaway giving Elliot the opportunity to fire in his second which he took, drilling his shot passed the Old Trafford keeper. With the game looking favourable for Thunder, Old Trafford began to up their work rate and they clawed two goals in quick succession to get back in front. Thunder came close to bringing it level with Che and Ralph again coming close on a few occasions but the rub of green wasn't to be as Old Trafford managed to find another gear and they scored another two goals making the hosts the winners.
A fantastic effort from the boys today they never gave up and it was a big improvement from the last meeting we had with Old Trafford ⚡
Man of the Match - Elliot with his electric run's and two great goals that had his dad needing a packet of Haribo's to calm down at the end of the game 😄.
*There was a really close game between two evenly matched teams when the Under 11's LIGHTNING met Strike JFC. The first fifteen minutes of this Manchester Youth Super League Division 2 fixture was played in the central area of the pitch with neither team on top. Strike JFC took the lead when from a scruffy shot the ball deflected past the Beechy keeper then a few minutes later Lightning conceded a second goal. Despite two goals down the Beechy Boys were still upbeat at half time because they knew they were playing well and very much in the game. Lightning started the second half on the front foot winning numerous corners and free kicks in dangerous positions and it was from one of those free kicks that Beechy were rewarded with their consolation goal. George Richardson placed the ball on the corner of the area before rifling a powerful shot at the target that saw the Strike keeper parry the ball and Finlay Thompson-Hale was on hand to tap home the rebound. It was end to end in the last ten minutes and during that time Lightning's goalkeeper James Hardman made some acrobatic saves and Henry Dunne went agonisingly close to getting Beechy a deserved equaliser. Lightning's Man of the Match was defender Charlie Drury who was calm on the ball and solid in the tackle.
*Due to holidays Beechy Under 10's THUNDER had just seven players available for their match against Middleton Lads Reds. But in this Manchester Youth Super League fixture every Beechy player displayed outstanding work rate throughout the contest and the team didn't deserve to suffer a defeat. Special mention to Samuel Nicholls, Jack Steele and Logan Moore as this was the first full game they had played. Man of the Match went to Henry Jones although all the Boys deserve recognition as they played their hearts out.
*Following two heavy defeats Beechy Under 15's TORNADOES found the winning formula again in the Salford and Districts Junior League. At home to Parkwyddn Predators in Division 2 Beechy secured all three points thanks to a 3-0 victory. On target for the Tornadoes were Archie Lock, Sonny Barrett and Enzo Costa.
*Making a cagey start in their Section B home game with FC Bridgewater were the Under 17's HURRICANES. In this Bolton Bury and District League fixture the Hurricanes took the lead through Enoch Olague who spotted the visitors keeper off his line and chipped the ball into the net then soon after Beechy increased their lead when Karo Ibodje made it 2-0. FC Bridgewater responded and their persistence earned them a penalty for a controversial handball and from the spot-kick the visitors reduced the arrears. (HT 2-1) Beechy started strong in the second half and went 3-1 up when Nahom Berhame scored via an excellent header following a corner. Paul Connolly and Luke Kennedy soon joined in on the action and they were both on target as Beechy took a healthy 5-1 lead. FC Bridgewater continued to battle on against the odds and the Hurricanes made sure of victory with two more goals from Enoch Olague and Paul Connolly. After six league games Beechy occupy third place in the table and their goals scored tally so far is thirty.
