Beechfield United Ladies kicked-off their Division One 2022/2023 season in the Greater Manchester Womens League with a 2-1 home win over AFC Bolton Ladies.

Straight from the first whistle Beechy put their opponents under pressure and Monique Pollard, Amie Barratt, Stacy Partridge and Aimee Armsden were involved in some excellent quick passing moves. In the opening few minutes the visitors created a few counter-attacks down both flanks but Beechy's back four and keeper Shauna Smith easily soaked up the presure. Following Beechy's first corner taken by Stacy Partridge a header from Alice Mosley skimmed the top of the crossbar then shots by Becky Gregory and Becky Topping were just off target. More top-class defending from Julie Ward and Monique Pollard plus two vital clearances by Joanna Szafranska denied the visitors the chance to take the lead.

On the twenty-fifth minute mark Beechy made two substitutions when Jess Lawson and Sophie Addison replaced Stacy Partridge and Monique Pollard. An inch perfect pass from Julie Ward was instantly controlled by Amie Barratt who after producing a superb solo run was unlucky not to score when her thunderous drive hit the crossbar. Once again AFC Bolton created a few decent attacks but Beechy defenders Julie Ward, Joanna Szafranska and Alice Mosley remained well organised. In a hard working Beechy display Aimee Armsden, Becky Topping, Becky Gregory, Aimee Greenwood and Amie Barratt were constantly involved in the action in a congested midfield.

A quick passing move between Sophie Addison and Aimee Armsden set-up a decent chance for Amie Barratt who's shot on target forced a save from the AFC Bolton keeper. An effort by Becky Topping curled just wide then at the end of another swift counter-attack involving Aimee Greenwood and Becky Gregory a volley from Jess Lawson flew over the crossbar. (HT 0-0) At the start of the second half Beechy made a couple of tactical changes which resulted in Monique Pollard and Stacy Partridge replacing Aimee Armsden and Joanna Szafranska. Both substitutes were soon involved when Monique won a free kick and after Stacy curled the ball into the area a visitors defender made a goalline clearance.

AFC Bolton continued to adopt the long ball tactic and the visitors No10 who had evaded the offside trap forced two great reaction saves from Shauna Smith. Aimee Armsden replaced Julie Ward and had two chances of a goal in quick succession when one effort was saved by the keeper then Aimee volleyed the ball wide after a neat move involving Jess Lawson and Becky Gregory. Beechy took the lead in the 56th minute when Jess Lawson latched onto a free kick taken by Stacy Partridge and hammered the ball which was helped into the net by the visitors from outside the area. Now playing as a central defender Stacy Partridge made several vital clearances when AFC Bolton enjoyed a greater share of the ball.

On sixty two minutes Beechy went 2-0 up through Aimee Greenwood who added a top-quality finish following a brilliant inch perfect pass from Amie Barratt. Returning to the action was Joanna Szafranska who replaced Becky Topping and back in her defensive position and assisted by Alice Mosley dealt with two promising AFC Bolton counter-attacks. Beechy continued to create some decent chances as they searched for a third goal but the vital finishing touch deserted them in the latter stages. Shauna Smith made a couple of excellent saves to deny the visitors No17 and No24 before AFC Bolton scored their consolation goal.
